Priests are not the strongest healers in any particular field (we do get top on charts sometimes) but we're very versatile and can do everything that other classes cant. We might not be able to beat a holy paladin's raw healing power, or beat a Resto Druid's raid heals, but we're flexible. We have HoTs and raid heals that paladins dont; we have a big heal and smart heals that Druids dont. Plus with our dispels and cool downs Priests are just awesome.
I think the golden rule for a priest is: Knowing what spell to use at a given time and learning the fights to look out for that pattern of damage and anticipating it with a pre-cast.
Example: Gormok the impaler's aoe damage on the melee/tanks. Pre-casting PoH on the group followed by a CoH and a PoM on a tank when Gormok starts swiping.
I agree with most people saying how healing meters aren't a big deal but I think it is important for players to be able to benchmark themselves against others. Currently, healing meters are the only answer. If I see a druid last on healing charts, I just know there's something wrong. I get really dps envy when I hear other DPS'ers talk about who can out dps who with a dummy. Healers dont have a dummy.
When I first heard of the Argent Tournament, I thought it was going to be a fight between players in terms of their roles. Example three priests get thrown into a simulation fight and they are given a time limit and whoever beats the other in terms of heals, judgment and reaction time wins that round.
Awesome!! The part about the economy and the items was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Joystiq; great questions! What I also wanted to know about was the impact of gold on the economy and how has the trading system changed.
