Soooo...a conservative group decides to have a gaming area for young people and everyone here is up in arms? Did they violate some kind of law I'm not aware about or something? Why are people making this such a big friggin deal??
Honestly, I'd have to agree with you on this. Much of the DLC I always felt was very small potatoes and should have been sold at a lower price. All they did was simply rehash most of the vehicles in the game and sold them as 'new packs' which I thought was the cheap way to go for offering new content. If they would have dove into the pool of vehicles from previous Burnout games, create and make them available for BP I could see the justification for the price, but they didn't even take the little extra effort to do that.
Only Bikes, Cops n Robbers, and Big Surf Island really added some considerably new content to the game because it truly offered a new experience to the game. Everything else was just little touch ups and good improvements, but really didn't make it a totally different experience, it simply gave it some enhancements.
And what isn't really mentioned with people who highly praise Criterion is the fact they shut down their forums due to fans essentially complaining about the game. So it rather lowered my respect for them being so thin skinned over negative feedback. Not even the Motorstorm official forums with all of their ranting fanboys over problems in Pacific Rift shut things down.
I really felt they should have taken the time they did making 'new' vehicles and the bikes pack and worked on another island, but that's just my opinion. But the amount of content they offered is not something I feel should be praised, and I would NOT want developers to look at Burnout Paradise as an example of how they should approach DLC either.
"Yes, but few of those games needed the extra horsepower to do what they did. Killzone 2, i'll grant, because it's focus in terms of wow-power was primarily technical, but few others."
Then I guess NSMBW shouldn't need to use 3-d graphics to do what it did either since its merely a 2-D game that could've used pixeled graphics instead. Most developers like to see their ideas come to fruition as close to their vision as possible. Therefore utilizing more powerful hardware, if its widely available, will be the way to go 90% of the time. Just because you think developers should make more with less doesn't mean they want to.
But really, if extra horsepower isn't supposed to matter then where are all the killer apps for the Wii to compete with the likes of the Forza 3's, Oblivions, GTA4's and Assassin Creeds out there? Where are the game-of-the-year quality titles that can stand head and shoulders above these games? If it doesn't matter then there shouldn't even be any kind of problem for Nintendo or third parties to churn out plenty of games that can rank up there with the today's best.
Wii maybe lead the race in console sales, and I don't knock them over that, but in terms of having blockbuster, defining-moment games that can make me or most others put down their 360, or PS3 controller to stand up and give them serious accolade, it's barely there. It's probably going to be that way until they make a console with more horsepower underneath its bonnet to attract more serious developers; and no amount of genre-bending is going help its case either.
All of those news channels have a left-wing bias, especially in the case with MSNBC and BBC which are very hard to the left.
Though the fact that most people on here prefer to watch those news channels is probably explains why they get a pass at overgeneralized resentment when they do a hatchet job on video games.
It's called a objective reporting and journalism. And if people aren't answering the question or changing the conversation in a debate, they have every right to interrupt them. They do that to the people on the left, right, and in the middle. And Fox by the way isn't the only news channel that frequently interrupts their guests.
As for 'glib and condescending remarks', the only time I've seen them do that with anyone is when they're being a complete moron or not behaving in the interview - unless you think idiots like the 9/11 truthers, people who call our soliders terrorists, defenders of the Westboro Baptist Church, or anyone who wants to spend their time directly insulting the news host, deserve great respect.
And my point is, if you're going to claim what kind of people watch the channel, you better damn well know enough about the channel to get an idea of what kind of people would watch it - which you clearly don't what so ever.
Well you must not be paying attention while observing. Because if you did, you know they aren't a mouthpiece for George Bush, O'Reilly doesn't cut people's mics every five minutes, and they do have liberals reporters and correspondents on the channel.
As for overgeneralizations, well just remember it can work both ways - especially for all the tree-hugging, atheist, socialist armchair revolutionist kids on here. =)
I'm a moderate, in my late twenties, and I often watch Fox News. Don't make accusations on their viewership unless you have solid proof they're all old religious far-right conservatives.
And by proof I mean stuff that isn't spoon-fed to you by radical-leftist blogs.
First off, I never said I agreed with the report. Read complete sentences, especialy where I said the report was inaccurate.
My issue is with people making this into an obession with their resentment on Fox News rather than focusing with the problem on hand that is the bad reporting on mature videogames from the mainstream media. And unless you've been living in a cave, other news outlets are guilty of doing the same thing! There's no need to bring Bill O'Rielly, Hannity and Colmes, Brit Humme or any of their other correspondents into the topic. Anything else is just pointless far-left dribble.
Am I the only one getting a little disturbed by gamers and game bloggers using this instance of the usual inaccurate reporting of a mature themed video game into the typical far-left hatefest for the Fox News Channel? Other media outlets have been guilty of the same, so where's all the disdain and clamoring of boycotts for them as well?
"If that's their perspective then you are openly admitting they are biased. If the contest is between liberal and conservative, then it should be equal and not just giving 'the benefit of the doubt'. How would you feel if I said about MSNBC 'oh and they even give right wing commentators the benefit of the doubt sometimes'"
No, you're taking my words out of context. My point was they have plently of different and valid viewpoints from the liberal perspective, they just tend to hold them to account, but they do the same to the other side as well - doesn't mean they view the libs as the anti-christ, or they let right-wingers off the hook easily for that matter. (A lot of people seem to forget they have liberal reporters, commentators, and democratic strategists - it's not just Alan Colmes you know)
While they do hold a traditionalist and conservative perspective, they still keep their debates fair from what I've seen. But no matter how fair of a debate there's always going to be a person who makes a better point than the other person. Accusations by people who keep claiming they always side with the right-wing and only the right-wing simply isn't true and shows that people aren't really watching the channel or just aren't paying attention. And this is coming from a person who used to hate Fox News.
And for your information, MSNBC never sides with anyone with a different viewpoint from their own - which is pretty much the reason why the channel is a ratings disaster.
