Amazon Kindle DX Graphite review

Aug 10th 2010 3:51PM (Engadget)
@ChaoZ

I understand the intention but the point of the scorecard is to give a concise breakdown of the product review. Putting the same feature on both sides is silly and a waste of limited space since the two sides cancel each other out. Weighing the two sides and picking whether that feature is a pro or a con makes more sense for the scorecard. Saying that E-ink in general is laggy is a criticism of E-ink as a whole and not specifically this product anyway.

And now I've spent entirely too much time explaining a flippant two-line comment.

The B&N iPhone app doesn't sync your reading progress either so if you go back and forth between your nook and the app then you're in for a world of hurt. Kindle syncing works as it should across all their apps and Kindle.

I think it's silly that the refresh rate is both a pro and con on the scorecard. Just pick one.

He already has the key to the ATM so why doesn't he just reach in and grab the money? Am I missing something?

True. How about where she just slips in that friends do things together like "conspiring to take over the planet"?

The bit at the end where she says she wants to live a real life is the most frightening bit. She just wants to "get out there and garden"? I'm not buying it.

PVI bets the farm, changes name to E Ink

Jun 21st 2010 10:48AM (Engadget)
The betamax comment is a bit much. E-Ink is better for reading than multipurpose displays. It does one thing really well with next-to-zero power consumption. There is no beta-VHS war here.

It doesn't really make sense to compare the two types of displays as if they are competitors. E-Ink is meant for thin, cheap, low-power reading devices. In the future they will be thinner, cheaper and flexible. You will still have your more powerful devices with fancy displays but that doesn't meat that the reading device market will go away.

E-Ink isn't antiquated technology. It's still getting started.

Translucent is the term. Not transparent.

These already come with 256GB SSD. In fact they come with up to 512GB SSD.

@Johnny Rockets

There is no OS that would make this thing amazing. It is hideous, ungainly and has terrible battery life.

And when did they stop calling these things UMPCs?
