Joyswag: Moon prize pack [update]

Feb 26th 2009 9:22PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'm gonna say Elebits... that counts as an FPS, right?

Actually don't like FPS games, but I did enjoy Dementium even though the save system was totally stupid.

The other Sonic 2 rated by ESRB

I love that game even though it's one of the harder Sonic games (for me at least). That octopus boss is very difficult. In fact all the bosses were hard.. But it was all worth it for the hang gliding.

Is this the only Sonic game with hang gliding? I can't think of any other with it...

DS Daily: How long do you give it?

Yeah, they're not hard per se, but since I had just started and was unfamiliar with everything, I just felt they threw you into things too quickly. Plus at that point I just had no connection to the game to WANT to start over after dying.

But you're absolutely right about the frequency of random encounters. That's actually the only thing that kept it from being my all-time favorite RPG (that title goes to Grandia II... provided the Shenmue series is not considered an RPG ;).

DS Daily: How long do you give it?

I think it totally depends on the type of game. Back in the 8 and 16-bit era, sure, 15 minutes might even be enough time to FINISH a game. Now I think you have to take at least a half hour to understand what a game has to offer.

With RPGs that number's much higher -- maybe an hour to an hour and a half. I remember when I first played Skies of Arcadia and in the first 20 minutes decided that I hated it because it seriously throws you into difficult random battles right from the start. Maybe a year later I decided to give it another try, and that turned out to be one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. :)

DS Daily: At launch

Nov 23rd 2008 12:25AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I was admittedly not sold on the DS concept when it launched. I was a HUGE, HUGE GBA fan, but I figured that the much more impressive on paper PSP would beat it resoundingly. And Nintendo's PATHETIC early game offerings did not help (Gimmicky re-release of a N64 launch title... really?).

I finally bit the summer after it launched because I really wanted to play Feel the Magic (still one of the best games for the system). I managed to get one of the early models that included First Hunt, which was cool.

I've since grown to love the DS (and the Lite). It's not the GBA yet, but it still has time. And it's much better than my PSP, which seriously, seriously disappoints me with its sad library of games.

DS Daily: Three hundred dollars

The DSi makes me think back to the 16-bit era when an incredible company called Sega dethrowned the giant Nintendo and then squandered it away with expensive marginally improved hardware that only served to split the userbase (and dev base) and thoroughly confuse customers.

(That's not to say I didn't love the Sega CD; though the library of games is small, there are some unbelievable games -- HOTA, Lunar 1 & 2, etc.)

I guess I would say wheel form, but I like it most whenever he gets to ride on his hamster friend (I think his name was Ricky...?).

I have not played it yet, but I'd like to. :)

DS Daily: Please enter your name

I use the character's proper name always if they have one, but if they don't it's always Ryo (as in Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue).

I would say I check it around 5 times each day.
