NetJets begins Aircell in-flight WiFi installations, won't stop anytime soon

Jul 29th 2010 9:00PM (Engadget)
@untrueparadox hmm, that would be interesting, but seeing as how we don't really have a space program at this time, nor commercial space flight, it might be a long ways off. Any other ideas, like maybe better food, wider seats, more leg room, etc.?

Windows Phone 7: the important bits

Jul 19th 2010 9:48PM (Download Squad)
The reason why there is no external storage is because of a few reasons.
1. Zune - The Zune software has its own way of organizing music on a device that keeps clutter down and makes it easier for the device to find the song. This stems from when Zune's had hard drives in them.
2. DRM - This relates to everything from music, to videos, to apps. For music, this is to make the record companies happy. For videos, it is to make the movie studios happy. For apps, it is to protect the app developers and the device itself from harmful code.
3. Internal Space - with a minimum of 8gb of internal space required by OEM's there is not much of a need for external storage. It would be foolish to think that OEM's are only going to put in 8gb. Most phones today that do offer external storage do not allow you to run apps off of the card, IE Blackberries.

The reason why Microsoft has decided to keep to a single design of the UI on the device is to keep confusion down. Most people who are going to buy a phone are not on blogs and tech websites everyday. They are ones who walk into a store, test out a bunch of phones and pick the one they like the most. With past version of WM, there would be phones with the regular UI, then HTC would have their own UI on top, or Samsung, Dell, LG, etc. would all have their own versions of a UI. This created confusion because the phone was advertised as having WM but each would have their own look.

This is also the reason why Microsoft has set a minimum spec list for the OEMs. In the past there would be phones that would run WM great, and then there would be ones that would run it like crap. So this was done to make sure that everyone who buys a phone with WP7 has the same experience.

Apple posts iPhone 4 press conference video, 'smartphone antenna performance' page

@mentu1 I did the same thing (also have the bold 9700) and didn't lose a bar of signal. I find it funny that they say that if it is in a weak signal area a phone can lose its signal by holding it "wrong", but if they were in a weak signal area, why is the phone showing full bars?

The fat lady sings: Opera 10.50 final now available for Windows

Mar 2nd 2010 2:27PM (Download Squad)
Yea those things are in there, but they are no where near causing opera to be bloated. In fact most things that opera includes as standard, are things that most people have to get extensions and plugins for with other web browsers.

Try installing and using the software before you make a claim about it being bloated. Im sitting here using it right now, and it does not feel bloated at all, unlike firefox which feels bloated even with a clean install.

Zune Pass hit by wave of disappearing music?

Feb 4th 2010 7:54PM (Engadget)
I have the zune pass and right after the maintenance update i noticed quite a few missing albums and songs, but since then I have seen albums being slowly added back. I mostly saw albums from hollywood records disappear then reappear. I think Microsoft is working it out with the record companies right now, thats why some albums are reappearing slowly.

Assassin's Creed 2 DLC detailed: fills in missing chapters, adds 'spring-jump'

Dec 17th 2009 11:13PM (Joystiq)
What if this DLC was planned because of the fact that there was not any room left on the disk to store the two chapters, or maybe the corrupt memories in the game was planned from the beginning, but someone later on said why not fill those in? Each DLC is atleast 1gb in size, so its not like the stuff is on the disk and its just unlocking it, no its really adding a substantial amount of new content.

I look at it this way, Ubisoft is a business first, and as a business they are trying to make money. So to make money, they sell extra stuff. The story of AC2 by itself is complete, you know the beginning, middle, and end, and if Ubisoft never released this DLC, everyone would be happy with the game. But Ubisoft is adding in a couple chapters that were missed, its no different then if you read a book, and the author comes out with another book that takes place between two chapters. So all in all, if you don't want the DLC, don't buy it, nothing is forcing you to.

Lightweight Windows 7 pre-Beta on Eee PC 1000H looks very promising

Oct 31st 2008 4:43AM (Engadget)
Also remember by the time windows 7 comes out it, RAM will be even cheaper then it is now. So having 2gb or 4gb in a netbook wont cost what it does today.
