Blizzard taking Valve to court over 'DOTA' trademark

Feb 10th 2012 7:33PM (Joystiq)
@eat it

Stuff developed in the employment of a company is owned by a company. However, the same is not true for fan-made mods or maps - they are considered 'transformative works' and therefore are protected by copyright.

Entelligence: Market caps and dunce caps

@koopatroopa I'm confused. The Newton isn't a tablet, it's a PDA.

@s73v3r Except you're wrong. Since the specs are there for anyone to read and implement, anyone can create a viewer for Flash.

Skype VP says company isn't developing software for Windows Phone 7 (Update: it's 'on the roadmap')

@grellanl

Whut? They use IE8's logo, which last time I checked *was* rather different to IE6's. Unless I'm missing something, of course...

Windows Phone 7 tablet concept is just a big iPhone (video)

Mar 18th 2010 11:39AM (Engadget)
@LongKnights So then, you agree that the iPhone was mismanaged and/or didn't have the resources it needed devoted to it?

Personally, I wasn't a fan of the iPhone because of the UI, the lack of multitasking for anything but Apple apps, the closed app marketplace and, more recently, their behaviour in regulating it - copy and paste was just another nail in the proverbial coffin of my interest. I'm actually interested in the UI of WP7, and the way apps are handled (suspended in background automatically) and can plug in to the hubs (e.g. playing Pandora in the background) satisfies most of my complaints, so lack of copy and paste would just be a minor annoyance.

The marketplace, if it remains the only method of transfer of apps, will still irk me as a developer, though.

Windows Phone 7 Series won't have copy and paste

It seems Engadget was wrong: http://twitter.com/thurrott/statuses/10593003663

"Not definitely, but that they were looking at adding this before RTM" doesn't sound like "in no uncertain terms".

It's on: Apple holding January 27th event to show off its 'latest creation'

@Mack Stone Because cut-and-paste is such a geeky feature. No-one *ever* uses cut-and-paste. I type long quotes out fully, every single time.

Sigh.

Windows Mobile 7 coming to MWC in February, not just 'evolutionary'

@HighestRanked: So which manufacturers, exactly, have ditched WinMo? Palm, who would look like they don't have confidence in their own OS had the continued with WinMo, and Motorola, who have been haemorrhaging share for years.

Meanwhile, LG, the world's third largest mobile phone manufacturer, have signed on to produce WinMo smartphones, and while market share have gone down, raw user numbers have gone up, indicating (I think) that most people buying iPhones are new to smartphones.

Command & Conquer 4 trailer features the art of fetching tiberium

The answer to your question is quite simple: these maps are supposed to represent great areas of land. The scale isn't like the RTS component of Total War, where you only play over a small battlefield; it's more on the scale of the turn-based component (sans turns, of course.)

In other words, you're not "mining on the battlefield", you're mining in one place to fund your battles in another.

Programmer adds IE 9 graphics acceleration to Firefox

Nov 27th 2009 4:16PM (Engadget)
@KillaChaos They've only been working on it for the last two/three weeks. Before then they were focused on IE8 on Windows 7.
