Sony pulls two PSP games from PSN to prevent Vita hack

Mar 27th 2012 4:09PM (Joystiq)
@King Johngie the Fourth The Syphon Filter games are still there, but they're part of bundles now. Dark Mirror comes with SOCOM, Logan's Shadow comes with Killzone. On Media Go at least, they don't show up under PSP games for some reason. I don't think they'e compatible with the Vita, so they wouldn't show on its PS Store.

Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion confirmed for 3DS by Nintendo Power

Mar 24th 2012 3:18PM (Joystiq)
@Hoops Man, I want those AR cards, but my subscription just expired. I would think that Future US would want as many subscribers as they can get, but I've never gotten a renewal notice for OXM, Playstation: The Official Magazine, or Nintendo Power. I guess I'm paying $5.99 so I can get the cards, or a little under a third of my subscription.

And yes, I still read Nintendo Power.

Epic: Consoles must be 'bleeding edge' in next generation

Mar 12th 2012 7:11PM (Joystiq)
@natiahs It'd be really stupid for Sony or Microsoft or ANYONE who makes anything for TVs to try and match the new iPad's resolution. See, the vast majority of TVs don't go past 1080P, and I'm not sure the ones that do are even being sold to any consumers yet. Making a console that goes past 1080P would be pointless because nobody would use the higher resolution it.

The resoultion is going to be something fanboys use to "prove" that the iPad is better than everything else (like you did), and that's exactly what Apple wants the average consumer to hear. It can have specs a billion times better than a PS3, but that doesn't automatically mean it's a better game system.

In fact, iOS devices may play games, but they're not gaming devices. By that logic, the 3DS is made for watching movies and listening to music because it has Netflix and the music player.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim awarded 'Game of the Year' at 2012 Game Developers Choice Awards

Mar 8th 2012 12:42AM (Joystiq)
@(Unverified) Probably because Zelda and Uncharted weren't nominated for game of the year.

VEVO app now available on Xbox 360

@Bulletoftheyear Censoring is definitely a 360-only thing. There's no censoring on the Vevo site.

Zynga sued for patent infringement

Feb 14th 2012 2:39AM (Joystiq)
@Shadowbender The patents in question were granted in the 1990s, I think the patents say 1995 (the Gamasutra article links to them) but I'm not entirely sure. Regardless, how many people thought, in 1995, that the internet would be what it is today? If you somehow showed the current internet and technology to someone from 1995, they would either call you a liar or a witch (or both!).

I bet these patents were a total shot in the dark back then, and they REALLY lucked out. Patent trolls suck, and they don't try to hide it. They don't make anything, but they totally deserve royalties because they patented it. I can maybe see that if their company did something other than sue people for using "their" technology, but this one does not. It's a big company like Zynga right now, but it's a step away from another case like Lodsys, where they sue a bunch of small companies or developers unable to defend themselves.

Double Fine returning to its adventure game roots with Kickstarter project [update: Funded!]

Feb 9th 2012 12:16AM (Joystiq)
@Fred Bear I was kidding, I guess it didn't come across that way? Sorry, not great with that stuff sometimes.

It's incredible that it's up to over $175,000 now, he just tweeted that they were doing it a little over three hours ago. I hope they get WAY over $400,000 by March 13th, and I can't imagine that they won't. We need to show that people still have an interest in these kinds of games.

I'm pretty worried about it. It only has over $117,000 right now, and the deadline is March 13th? I really hope they can make it by then!

In other words, I'm looking forward to the game. I wish I could have given more than $30.

Vita gets more Remote Play titles with hacked PS3 firmware

Jan 23rd 2012 9:22PM (Joystiq)
@irotmx The PSP could do Remote Play over the internet, but if I remember right, it was terrible. My PS3 was connected via ethernet, and my PSP was right next to the router, but it was still really laggy.

I'd love to be able to perfectly stream a full game from my PS3, over the internet, and onto my Vita on another network. That's the thing, though, I'd have to be on a network if it worked. If I had a Wifi-only Vita and had no Wifi, there's obviously no way to stream something. When I said "portable", I was thinking about not being able to connect to anything. and just carrying the Vita and cartridges around.

@irotmx I would assume one of the reasons someone would have for getting a portable version of a console game that they already own is the ability to play that game when you're not at home.
