All Points Bulletin: Reloaded open beta delayed

May 19th 2011 2:13PM (Massively)
@Toyaga

It's very real, I've had not one single graphical or performance issue playing the game throughout closed beta and when the pre-open beta batch went live yesterday an hour into my play session I got dropped from a mission where I was curb stomping the crims with an 11 death kill streak. As a result I never got the rewards and after logging back in I decided to just log off again.

It's great to seem them prioritizing a patch over just getting people in (especially when they would be turned away by this issue)

Are the Sith 'good guys' in Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Mar 23rd 2010 2:17PM (Massively)
THAC0 I didn't forget the USA, the USA isn't an empire. You can look at the historical examples in Rome, Britain, France, China, etc. and very plainly see the difference. Empires suck resources and money out of their controlled areas toward the mother country (much like the US colonies sent raw goods and taxes to the british) while giving very little back. The US invests heavily in other nations, spends a large amount of its defense budget on bases, fleets, troops stationed all over the world for other countries protection, not ours, and in times of disaster pours out money and resources to afflicted countries (haiti, the tsunami in SE Asia, etc). Please study history and don't make broad generalizations based on your politics.

Well that doesn't make the Sith less evil. Plenty of dictators and nation-states try to do the same thing (Soviet Russia, South America, Rome the Empire vs. Rome the Republic, etc.) and it always ends with corrupt power and the destruction of freedom. Liberty and Personal Responsibility are the ideals that lead toward a successful society.

And yet time and time again in movies, books, games, and other expanded universe settings the sith are shown to be cruel and merciless not only to their enemies and those uninvolved, but even more so to their own kind. It's hard to paint shades of gray when a race of people don't even value their own kind.

The Daily Grind: How concrete do you want your numbers?

Mar 15th 2010 8:29AM (Massively)
Defintely would rather have the numbers. Regardless of whether or not the developer gives you the formulas for how damage is worked out or how perks affect base stats, those formulas still apply. I would much rather have access to the data and thus make better choices with my character as I progress than mistakenly invest points, IP, experience, etc. into a stat, perk, ability that isn't as effective as I thought.

Australia's Atkinson thinks gamers are scarier than biker gangs

Feb 16th 2010 4:10PM (Joystiq)
Okay so the reason that you don't like Atkinson is he's being reactionary against mature games, but the gamer in the article is more reactionary in his creepy note leaving, the writer and editor are reactionary in their article and per usual everyone who posts a comment is even more reactionary. If the choice is between two groups of reactionary people will the common man side with a politician with a family or a bunch of gamers on a website about gaming spewing negative press and hate in defense of a pass time. Yeah it must suck not to be able to play a lot of games in Australia that are released elsewhere but gaming is a hobby, a pastime, and not your whole life or at least shouldn't be (gaming writers and editors aside).

Take all the time you spend flaming and raging about this issue and use it to contribute to local politics and/or improving where you live in Australia and then you might be able to actually sway opinion your way.

Massively's EVE Online PLEX contest: "New Eden"

Nov 30th 2009 4:14PM (Massively)
EVE-online has always been ahead of the curve (maybe even at the bleeding edge) when it comes to accessing the game when not in game. Due to EVE’s support of API I can use a program to track my character’s SP progression and plan for future skills, test out different fits for different ships without having to spend money in game. All this and so much more have made EVE so much easier to use whereas as games like World of Warcraft actively seek to ban users who make use of any third party applications.
Where does EVE’s New Eden fit into all of this? Well a simple explanation would be to say it’s a continuation of EVE’s support of API, but that doesn’t do it justice. 3rd Party applications have been a large boon, but data only flows one way; out of EVE. With New Eden players will be able to have a plethora of interactions within the game and other players be done outside the game, while they are at work, traveling, or just simply not in front of their PC. New Eden will connect me to my passion.
