Paris Motor Show: Dodge Avenger Concept

Sep 28th 2006 11:58AM (Autoblog)
This is a much more successful styling than the Chrysler Sebring, in my opinion. The Sebring looks a little bizarre, like its a much larger car pretending to be a much smaller one. This one, while not "pretty" in my opinion has much more cohesive and distinctive styling. It will find success in the marketplace.

The Clicker: Digital content -- why the sense of entitlement?

Sep 22nd 2006 12:28PM (Engadget)
A quick note: DRM more explicitly exposes the fact that you are not, as you correctly state, the *owner* of the music directly, but the owner of the *license* to that music. DRM is a way of enforcing that license.

Basically, because the Audio Home Recording act of 1992 allows consumers to make private and personal copies of their music, the only legal way around this is to wrap a digital file in some sort of DRM. The genius of that is that the recording industry THEN made it illegal to break digial copyright protections of any kind!

So you have a direct conflict in law. People can make copies of whatever they want, so long as they don't break the copyright control while doing so.

I agree, that its our job as consumers to NOT purchase DRM on whose terms we disagree with. I think thats the reason the iTunes music store has been so successful: It strikes a balance between purchaser and producer that most people find acceptable.

On the DL: Apple's U2 iPod goes 5.5G, falls to $279

Yes, its a waste to want to pay a premium for a nifty special edition of an audio player. *rolls eyes* . This is ENGADGET. We're all about the sexy tech here. Otherwise we'd all be listening to anonymous flash MP3 players, or hard drive based systems the size of your head.

I love how people are complaining that the XBox360 has no HDMI, when
the BASE PS3 HAS NO HDMI either, and according to Sony it will never
have it!

Could Rover be Mazda's Lexus/Acura?

Sep 19th 2006 9:21AM (Autoblog)
I was thinking that perhaps in order to save Jaguar, they could broaden out the Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar fold, so that Jaguar could be exlusively upmarket, with Rover taking the "mid luxury" segment with platforms shared among the two.

However, a Rover Mazda axis might also be pretty nice, although Rover would need a pretty substantial change in perception to fit with Mazda. Considering that Mazda has primarily 4-cylinder engines with a few V-6's and their rotary, I don't see how those would scale up to Lexus/Acura leagues.

First Impressions: iPod nano 2G

Sorry about the double posting. I had my comment queued, but didn't click on the verify link on my email! :-)
It might be that the USB 2.0 chip on the nano from Samsung is simply not at the same level. The big question is whether the 4GB and 2GB models have the same issues. Perhaps its an issue with the NAND RAM?

First Impressions: iPod nano 2G

David, do you think the hit in performance could be due to most of your music now having Album art? This is assuming that you synced your library with the itunes store to get the new art. That does had a few hundred K to each file.
