Nokia's Design by Community makes smartphone concepting a multiplayer game, with limits

Mar 19th 2010 1:48AM (Engadget)
@WickedEast its more about a single persons vision. Instead of the collective visions of us, the consumer. I'm not citing anything specifically. And this is more of a design philosophy in general...

Nokia's Design by Community makes smartphone concepting a multiplayer game, with limits

You can make a successful product designing by committee, but the only way to make a great product, a game changer, is to have one person with a clear vision. (no I don't like Apple or SJ, but this method would just give you a product with a bunch of features and little real design substance)

Exclusive: Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot gameplay trailer

Now see that makes me want to buy this DLC. I'm still looking for a better review of this though. Will there be any challenge for Level 50 players? I ask because Gearbox seems to forgot to keep things interesting for those of us at the level cap. Zombie Island was a joke. I killed almost everything in one clip. Half the time I killed a boss and didn't even realize it because they dropped dead just as fast as the zombies. It was one big grind fest for achievement points, with little challenge and even less loot.

So will this be scaled correctly for us hanging around at 50? And can I play it over and over again and again. This needs to be as hard and replayable as say Firefight in ODST.

The '12 Days of Christmas' get a Gears of War 2 makeover

Does anyone actually want to play with any of those changes?

Personally I love Gears, hate the chainsaw, the b button spamming, over powered boomshot, and planted grenades. I'm glad the first 4 days of this event make it a nightmare to even play Gears, on top of what is a pretty rough and inconsistence matchmaking experience.

I'd agree. I was excited for Zombie Island, then the first group of zombie's started to charge...I mean walk as slow as humanly possible at me. I kill 95% of the enemies in one clip or less from any of my guns. Maybe because I'm at the level cap everything has lost its appeal (I loved my first and second playthrough). But with each addition to this game I'm looking for more challenging enemies and better loot.

I found as many chests in Zombie Island as there are in New Haven, though I can spam New Haven in like 2 minutes. No boss has ever dropped a weapon worth picking up and using (sometimes I sell them, but money means nothing anymore). Unfortunately this game losses all its replay value at the level cap beyond farming loot. The gun lockers are needed, but I want challenge to this game, and hopefully these arenas are difficult and infinitely replay-able (I assume so with no rewarded XP). Best co-op game I've ever played, if it had something as fun as firefight, and as difficult, I'd continue to play this game more.

But can I replay these battles over and over?...or like all previous arenas, when they are done, they're done.

I loved this game for 2 playthroughs maxing out my character to level 50. But now everything is getting old, Zombie Island was a joke, every boss died from one clip of my SMG. Battling friends in the arenas is fun, but everyone kills each other in one shot so its just not that exciting.

This game needs DLC that has what we (I) love about this game. Collecting loot, good loot (not the crap all the bosses have dropped so far), and boss battles that are difficult, arenas with waves upon waves of bad guys that is difficult like Firefight/horde/nazi zombie type stuff, and ones I can replay.

For $10 it's almost worth the gun locker, but I want to be able to go in and replay these arenas over and over, and for the to be difficult.

Sony's Kaz Hirai confirms 'premium level' subscription coming to PSN

Nov 23rd 2009 1:38PM (Engadget)
I'm not sure what they would offer as a premium. Now days all the premiums seem to come with pre-orders from games (as far as betas and extras). With XBL, I don't see a point to the silver account, you just pay to play. Since PSN is free to play, I can't see them offering features that premium users would want to pay for. Unless they stopped feature upgrading the current service and moved forward with a better PSN under a premium account.

Either way that's a big selling point for PS3 gamers, not necessarily PS3 sales. Really they just need to not market the PS3 as a console and more of a media center that plays games.

Activision: Modern Warfare 2 earned $550 million in first five days

@ Chris there won't be an IW CoD title next year. The developer that happens to progress this game forward (for good or evil) unlike the other who just copies and milks for cash.

ODST was a spin-off DLC that turned into a full title because they bundled Halo 3 MP and DLC with it. ODST was never meant to be a blockbuster title, just a hobby at Bungie. Had they not included Firefight/Reach Beta it wouldn't have been even worth $20 (which is what I paid for it).

Halo: Reach is more or less Halo 4. New MP, campaign, engine, all that stuff and Bungie's last Halo title. The only way they won't outsell Halo 3 is if they happen to screw the MP more than it already is today. Which is very likely, but they will still sell a lot of titles for an exclusive.

Gearbox details known Borderlands glitches, workarounds

Oct 27th 2009 3:42PM (Joystiq)
Short answer, yes it is that fun where you would start over. You have to start over just to get to lvl 50, and then the game just continues to get better and better. If you wanted you could burn through your first playthrough in no time.

But I've already put in 66 hrs, no other game I have logged so many hours so quickly, hands down the best co-op gameplay.

The glitches are annoying though and they will affect you, I've already got achievements that won't unlock and weapon progress resets when you leave a game youre not hosting, it's annoying but no deal breaker.

Gears of War 2 TU5 passes cert; Epic passes along list of fixes

Oct 23rd 2009 2:07PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Yeah that out of map glitch isn't solved just by removing the ability to mantle over the shield. As long as you can mantle over something you can get out of the map...nice fix Epic. thanks for paying attention to abysmal consistency in starting weapons, rank resets/glitches, or anything else that may be somewhat more important to gameplay then a camera change.

Then once you're done fixing gameplay, fix host selection, or the fact that you can still spawn without a weapon, that's been there since release.
