I will definitely comfirm this. I too treat my DS Lite with the utmost care and, after reading the story yesterday, found that my brand new DS Lite is also sporting the crack. It's a hairline crack, but a crack none the less. I wonder if Nintendo will do anything about this? It doesn't seem to be causing any problems with my system but it sure doesn't look very pleasant...
