LOL, There is no way, after playing for 40 hours a week, that he is going to give up playing that game altogethar. I can't believe that they thought that single CD is the source of all evil, and that it can simply be destroied forever by a simple shred. When I gave up EverQuest in 01, I was nearly in tears. Now I just play games that have an "end".
Unfortunatly I am also suffering from this defect. The crack, although small, is definately forming on my hinge. I think however that I may have found a way to pretty much fix and/or prevent this crack from getting worse.
First, go out and buy some super glue (liquid cement) from a modeling/home repair store.
Open the glue, and use a toothpick to apply a layer or two across the cracked region. Think of this at applying the glue on the X-axis.
Note: If your hinge has completely cracked, you may need to hold the crack shut with your finger as you apply the glue.
Next apply another layer of glue across the seam perpindicular to the crack. Think of this as the Y-axis. This will help support the hinge and prevent the crack from widening.
After a half hour or so, the glue should be fully dried. Since the glue is clear, it will be practicly unnoticeable.
Hope this helps anyone who is also suffering from this defect.
NOOOO!! My Lite has a hair line fracture in the same area. My crazy however, is forming in a slightly different area than the one in the picture above. I think I am going to apply some super glue right over the crack before it gets worse.
