Jan 15th 2009 8:22PM (Joystiq)Some thoughts on the numbers:
Top 4 selling games of the year were for the Wii. That's extremely impressive.
Left 4 Dead has to be seen as a huge success. Is there a reason Valve did not release it on PS3 as well as 360? It could've moved at least 400k units on PS3.
Only one of the top 10 selling games for December was for the DS. That's strange considering the DS was the number one selling console for the month by a wide margin. The holiday season was really missing a huge DS release. The top selling game for December, Mario Kart, is a couple years old! I wonder if the lack of Nintendo DS releases for the "core gamer" has anything to do with the upcoming introduction of the DSi. Maybe they've focusing their resources on DSi games?
Is Call of Duty now the #1 franchise in gaming? Gears of War 2 sales pale in comparison to World at War sales for 360 in December. They might've been able to give a new Halo game a run for its money.
