I can't believe no one else has said this... XBox 360, with its horrible selling in Japan has already sold more than the PS3 will to start. So, at least until the second shipment, 360 is winning the console war in Japan.
Ha. No, I'm not a fanboy. I was really hoping the OS3 would work out, but I think they've shot themselves in the foot so many times, they'll be hard to recover.
@19 - If you compare 5 different systems to three... and four of those 5 are handhelds. With the highest priced nintendo 'console' costing under $130, of course Nintendo is going to outsell everyone else. It should probably be noted though that Of those five systems you noted for Nintendo, three of them are remakes of an earlier system. If you keep repackaging something enough times, people will keep buying it.
@33: Um, buddy... backwards compatibility doesn't mean NEW games play on OLD systems... it means OLD games play on NEW systems. Therefore, adding a second analog stick wouldnt effect backwards compatibility at all.
I'll care when The Shield hits my 360. Or Law and Order: SVU. Or CSI. Until then. I couldn't care less. But it could open the door for those shows, so I care.
Oh, and did they say anything about full 1 hour downloads? I saw it as "the story so far". Granted, I know nothing about it, or the show, but I was just wondering.
Yeah, for $600, we'll get free HD programming. From Sony. Meanwhile, your BluRay drive will be useless for anything other than games. Sony's track record for technology isn't that great: betamax anyone; or how about minidisc?
Okay, I've read the first 50 comments, and I don't think anyone has really hit on the issue. Whether you think 8 is too young or old enough to play a game as violent as Halo is irrelevent. Whether you think his parents are irresponsible for handing him a controller instead of parenting doesn't matter. What matters is that this kid is nowhere near puberty and he's good enough at a killing game to be a professional at it. I'm sorry, but if you have played Halo enough to be a professional at it by the age of 8, something is very wrong. I'm not here to discuss his balanced life or his parents, because honestly I don't care about either. I don't think he'll become a murderer, but I also don't think that he'll have the type of work ethic that creates a healthy adult. Those of you who say that his parents are happy to let him play if it makes him happy, I say this: OF COURSE THEY ARE!! THEY'RE THE ONES CASHING THE CHECKS!!!! Yes, they've put enough money away for college, which is just wonderful, but he's going to keep making money, and I'm sure his parents don't mind depositing those checks. Someone said that his father only had his best intrests in mind. Hmm.. lets evaluate that: when his 2 year old was crying, he gave him a controller (which means he was killing things before he could wipe his own ass or piss standing up), he's 'allowing' his son to make hundreds of thousands of dollars, money that I'm certain mommy and daddy allocate spending of. I'm not saying that the guy is a horrible parent, but don't call accepting a fat check for his kid's work love. There is no reason that an 8 year old should be at the professional playing level on a video game that offers nothing but killing. And sure, right now he's doing school work and team sports and all that, but he is only 8. As he gets better, Halo will consume more time and eventually either his gaming will suffer or his education will, and I'll bet you 10 to 1 that he'll choose the one that comes with a paycheck. As for parents just having to take a moment to look at the game ratings... well, have any of you ever sold video games to parents, 9/10 times they let the kid pick out whatever game they want, regardless of the level of violence. Just yesterday I sold GTA:LCS to the mother of a 10 year old because her kid started throwing a fit in the middle of the store. The ESRB exists for a reason, and for the gaming community as a whole to say "well, that doesn't matter in this case" simply gives people like Jack Thompson firm ground in his war against video games. Whoever it was that said that MLG should have refused to sign the kid was exactly right. If NASCAR signed an 8 year old, or if Ron Jeremy released his latest flick starring a 10 year old. Is it because the laws that govern these things? No, it's because we, as a society, have a sense of moral decency, and the thought of an extreme minor excelling in the "sport" of virtually killing people is just not something that is right. Dislike me if you must, but you can't deny me.
[EDIT] It has nothing to do with jealousy. I think video games should be played for fun and as stress relievers, not as serious competition.
To the moron who made the Mario post: there's a vast difference between cartoony violence towards mushrooms and turtles and killing photorealistic humans.
Eventually, the kid will get to a point where either his education or his gaming career will have to suffer, and just ask yourself, when you were in your teens, and you had the chance to make millions of dollars or stay in school, what would you have done?
