Linux support dropped from PS3 Firmware 3.21

Mar 29th 2010 8:28AM (Joystiq)
When I found out that new PS3s were getting Bravia sync but didn't have Linux support I thought to myself "I'll buy a PS3 Phat".

Now sony is fucking me over. I guess I should have gotten a slim after all.

Re-Releash it minus the friends codes and add 32 player online support and I'll think about it.

Idiots had a winner but they went with friend codes. I sold my Wii because of friend codes! Stupid Nintendon't! Sega you're stupid too, should have looked to EA for how to do online right!

The only game I ever enjoyed on Wii for online play was Medal of Honor: Heroes 2; That game had good online play. Sold the Wii and moved on to PS3 because of the crappy online play.

I can see that motion control will come to PS3 which means Wii is nothing more then a failure of a gamers console IMO since the other manufacturers not online will offer similar features in time but they will provide an experience not hindered by pathetic parental control BS.

Screw you Nintendo for screwing up the Wii!

Conduit devs had 'dusty Wii syndrome,' hope to release cure

The no-go for me is if the online multi player uses the stupid "friend codes" system. Medal of Honour: Heroes 2 is a fantastic game because EA decided to do multi-player the right way.

Mind you the one thing which would have made it better would be local multi-player. Sometimes I want to play some goldeneye style multi-player.

More studios move towards Blu-ray / DVD combo packs

Agreed, also you have to consider how many people have dvd players in there car. They aren't going to be upgrading to blu-ray any time soon. This gets those people to splurge if they want to enjoy hd at home and the same movie for the kids in the car.

HD 101: Why there are black bars on HDTVs

True the Criterion 2 disc edition is far superior (thanks for pointing that out). It pisses me off though because I feel cheated. It specifically says 2.35:1 on the rear of the case of the 1 disc version. In any case yet another thing to be aware of.

HD 101: Why there are black bars on HDTVs

Check out the widescreen DVD for the movie The Rock. This is a case where what they have done is really bad.

They've added black bars to the top and bottom of the image. This works for 4:3 TVs but the image looks horrible on a 16:9 TV.

Example Rendering:

I've played with the 4 options on my TV (Normal, Zoom, Wide Zoom, Stretch) but no matter what the image ends up looking disproportional.

I think the only way to get it to work is to have the DVD player output in 4:3 mode and then use the Zoom feature on the TV.

:S
