If I see listings under msc. in the AH or see a player in /2 trying to sell gray items, or asking how much they're worth (and after looking them up a bit, seeing if they're guildless, have a sensible name [no xxxyzzzye], and are at least lvl 4) I usually send them some gold from on of my alts along with an explanation about gray items and some hints on how to use the money (like buying bags from the AH NOT vendors).

I do this mostly because of people like my dad. He's been a gamer since I was born however he doesn't quite "get" MMORPGS and tends to play them like a solo game. He doesn't type in-game, has never run an instance, and scrimps and saves to get enough money just to pay his training costs. I think there are a lot of players out there that are like my dad who want to play this thing called Warcraft but maybe aren't sure how to get started. Every little bit counts...
