this port will be Kinect enabled (though the controller option is still there) which makes total sense for Dragon's Lair. You only need a swing motion and the ability to jump in 4 directions which is simple enough to do.
my idea of gaming is on a big screen TV with 5.1 big speakers, not on a 9" screen with my fingers. my idea of gaming is playing with a bunch of my friends. not on a train, not on a plane, not on the toilet, not by myself...
@tendoboy1984 because when you build a system, you assume all the labor costs (you're building it yourself rather than paying someone to put together a machine). you're also assuming all the customer service (you have to diagnose yourself why the machine you put together isn't booting up). you don't have to pay salespeople. you don't have to pay for managment people. you don't have to pay for warranties. there's a lot more than just the parts. you don't have to pay for any of the costs of running a business.
that said, PC builders do pay less per part than retail customers (and again, the seller of the parts have to make money so the video card you buy is sold for profit), but the savings don't cover the overhead.
will Steam be enough for people to buy a custom PC? Not when your current PC is already a Steam box and you can upgrade your PC cheaper than buying a new complete system.
@tendoboy1984 the 3DO failed because people who make the consoles (Panasonic, Toshiba, etc.) need to make profit on selling the consoles. They can't make back the money on software sales because all they make is the hardware. That's why the 3DO was friggin $699. And how can you differentiate a Panasonic 3DO from a Toshiba 3DO? You can add features but it's a platform so you can't do too much and stray from the specs. You can get into a price war but again they need to make money on the hardware.
And who wants to buy a dedicated console that costs $1000+? For that price, I'd rather get a PC. The allure of a console is simplicity and near performance to a PC but for much less cost. You can't build a decent gaming system for $200.
Rocksmith is awesome. I've used it and it works. not going to trust anything Joystiq says about it. Like they say, you can say whatever BS you want ad nauseum, that doesn't make the BS any more true..
yes, because a DVD strapped to a weather balloon will somehow survive a descent from the stratosphere... but it would be a collector's item regardless! and if it still worked, i can imagine some rich ME fan ponying up money for it
