Mage changes in next patch

Nov 21st 2007 5:20PM (WoW)
This will be a decent boost in dps for the duration. It will take the 2.5s cast frostbolt down to 2s for a 20s duration. If you have NO latency problems, that is a theoretical 2 extra frostbolts cast in that time.

My question is whether this will stack with other spell haste effects. I have Quags eye which also gives (I believe) a 20% boost to casting speed. If the two were to stack, that would be awesome. Combine this with a trinket + spell damage, the Spellstrike proc, and Arcane Power and it is 20 seconds very well spent.

Most of this time will likely be spent dead though. Apparently mages are meant to spend their time on their backs.. ;)

Totem Talk: So you've decided to roll a shaman...

Or, you can be an idiot like myself, and be inspired by the 'self imposed class restriction' post from the other day. My goal with playing my shammy is to not let him eat meat, kill noninsectoid beasts, and not use ANY melee attack. EVER. As you can imagine, it has made leveling a little challenging. I would recommend going the more mainstream way of leveling, listed above :-p

You say Mana. I say Manna.

Will this be a 'unique' item like the healthstone, where you can't have more than one at a time? I only ask because some people will have to use them more often than others, leading to it having to be cast more often, leading to more reagents having to be carried around. That doesn't bother me a whole lot, just curious.

Maintenance extended three hours

So. They switch talents from one tree to another or full on remove talents from tees altogether.. with no free respec? This boggles my mind for the following reason. None of these abilities are top tier, so if you are all the way into a tree and they take out 1 point in the middle, wouldn't that kind of, I don't know, screw things up and make you recheck the upper tier talents anyhow? I don't even think it should be a free talent for everyone, just people affected by the talent change. Seems kind of silly. Guess when I get home from work and patch I can see how borked it all is. Yay patch day!

PS. Why do people raid on Patch day? My roommate got roped into one because tuesday is normally an SSC night. Everytime it falls on patch day, the server crashes or is unplayable and addons (which people who raid seem to be...oddly and absolutely DEPENDENT on), and then they just complain and complain. Hurts my head.

Self-imposed limitations on leveling

Nov 11th 2007 3:40PM (WoW)
This has actually inspired me to do a similar thing. My brother had told me about people who played using "hardcore rules," can only use what you find and craft, cannot repair anything, and in some cases you could only quest in the zones of the opposite faction. I had thought about undertaking these rules, and I still might, but it sounds like it would be more enjoyable, or at least more interesting, to use those restrictions to build "character." Not full on role playing (in an RPG? Perish the thought!), but just something to make it feel different.

I just created a new Shaman on Dark Iron. I am going to play the class purely as a caster class. I will never (if I can avoid it) ever use a melee attack. Spells and totems are good. If I am oom, then it looks like I will have to wait til I have enough mana to cast a spell.

Building of of Snailking's idea, this shaman will not kill animals. Plant/elementals, insects, humanoids, etc. Those are fine. But animals? No. If a quest calls or me to kill animals, it isn't getting done. This may slow the progression, but this game is only hear to kill time, so who cares.

He will also not eat meat. Any health regen item he uses will be animal product free. But why stop there? Since Shaman get 2 armor types, cloth and leather, pre70, it only makes sense that he would not wear leather. If he can't kill it, he can't wear it. This is cool for 2 reasons. One: cloth is primarily caster focused anyhow, so no harm, no foul there. Two: when (if) I hit 40 with this character, the mail will be a MASSIVE upgrade from the cloth, whereas it isn't that huge a jump from leather.

I am going to give it a go. I think, or hope at least, that it will be an enjoyable experience!

One I never see is the rare cheetah from the Barrens. I remember fighting it in Beta and believe it is still there. I could be wrong.

Odd choices for gear changes in 2.3

Oct 26th 2007 11:27AM (WoW)
You may have also seen the FR disappear off of every item from these instances that possessed them. Since no one does MC anymore (why retool and reduce the number of people needed to run when you can just obsolete huge expanses of content, I always say), let alone BWL. I also noticed the same happening to NR, effectively doing the same to AQ.

I guess it makes sense though, since they already obsoleted so much of the gear by almost any level 60 green dropped in the outland, and are now just getting around to emphasizing how much they don't care about that content...

Oh well.

And I know obsoleted isn't a word.
