Dragon Age comic debuts in March, 2010

Dec 23rd 2009 9:53AM (Joystiq)
I actually read both of the novels, and... they weren't bad. Say a 3.5-4 out of 5 stars with the second "The Calling" being a lot more enjoyable.

The first novel I almost put down completely like 5x times, then a little over halfway through it took some twists that made me appreciate and enjoy it much more, there's some memorable and enjoyable characters and some hardcore scenes, but the lead up and tie into the game was really enjoyable. Overall much much better than the young adult level Halo, and Warcraft titles.

I'm all for media around the bigger and deeper game titles like Elder Scrolls, DA, Mass Effect, etc. so long as they're good.

Age of Conan gets 'unlimited free trial,' fine print

Awesome news, I'll bite. I'll play through that portion and if I like it might pony up for and play the hell out of another 3-4 months. Plan to do the same with Warhammer and hopefully Champions Online at some point.

After that point though regardless of how much I enjoyed the time spent I'll be moving onto my stacks of single player games, there's just too much terrific gaming out there to spend that much time on a single MMO like the WoW junkies.

What is Armored Core 3 Portable!? Why haven't I heard of it... if it's a true AC game and not the formula front style game I'll buy now, but I can't recall seeing or hearing any news on this...

Any feedback or reviews on this?

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos was an okay RTS and associated expansion set in the WH Fantasy realm. Reviews were okay to meh, but it's well worth picking up for $20.

Give Age of Conan a second chance, get two weeks free

Amazon.com has this for $12 that makes the startup cost pretty low, I'm guessing the monthly is still $15?

A few days before Halo 3 launched and my 360 broke with the RRoD! Like cancer I guess... you never think it can happen to you UNTIL...

Killzone developer says PS3 dev easier than PS2

Apr 3rd 2009 4:34PM (Joystiq)
Makes perfect sense if you've followed the industry.

The PS2 was always generally regarded as difficult to develop for and was historically one of the flaws of the otherwise successful console. Going into this current cycle it was one of the things that MS was sure to play up and one of the (very few) shortcomings that Sony acknowledged and attempted to address early on in announcements regarding the PS3 by marching out Unreal Engine Devs (for UT3?) on stage to say that the PS3 was easy to program for and get the UE running on.

Yes there's a layer of opinion added to this along with the fact that they had good help but I think ultimately Sony has seen that making their console easy to develop for is a big key and something they worked for on the PS3 and should hopefully emphasize in future gaming ventures now that we all get to enjoy the solid competition from MS and Nint.

NY strikes again with another video game bill

Feb 5th 2009 12:37PM (Joystiq)
Your comment is dead on and I did take note of the post you reference, but I still think that this bill would accomplish nothing but to waste time and money for the same end result:

- Costs, who picks up the costs of administering the tests and verification?
- Methods, as another poster said a game can play out in so many different ways, how do you test it, the answer if you can't make a firm determination the way that you can a movie.

In the end then you've spent large amounts of tax payer money, enforced a whole new level of costs and processes on a specefic industry, all for the result of games being labeled with "May or could induce siezure" etc... which is what we already have today.

In the end though I do try not to assume that people are "just out to attack my beloved video games" and hope that there's more to this story than I've seen...
