In defense of Xenogears

Jan 7th 2012 11:06PM (Joystiq)
@gettinmoney662 i agree entirely, RE4 for the GC is a perfect example, second disc was way shorter than the first... I'll be honest, I was a bit dissapointed at first, thinking there was tonnes more content... but at the end of the day, they used two discs because they refused to compromise on their vision, they didn't limit the size, or over compress, and when it turned out that it needed 2 discs to store the content, they went with it.

same can be said with games with any number of discs, the last disc is generally the shorter one... I suppose what they could do, for the sake of consumer appeasement, is split it more evenly, or even make the last one longer.

But more on topic, xenogears used the discs as a sign for a change in tone, which is even more appropriate, even if not intentional.

@EIranzer While I generally agree with your selections... and understand that you are showing them that way to indicate preference to certain games over others... really if you take what you said and simplify it a bit but not trading out then back in a game you get

Trade Yoshi's Island for Super Mario World.

Trade F-Zero and Mario Kart for the Metroid Zero Mission and Nightmare in Dreamland.

Trade Mario vs Donkey Kong for anything. Perhaps Pokemon (LeafGreen), as Pokemon seems to be glaringly missing.

so instead of the 6 changes you made it seem like (by swapping out and in Fusion and Mirror), its really only 4... Not that it necessarily changes the quality of the list... or the fact that zero mission is better than fusion (unfortunately I played zero mission first, then got fusion and was a bit dissapointed)... Anyways, I would also have liked to see golden sun, but since I never got the chance to play fire emblem, maybe that will make up for it.

Gears of War 3 getting Title Update 2 tonight with spectator mode, easier medals and mutators

@Slight of Ham not to mention if you happen to body them outright then you're out of luck... I`ve only managed to get one... and only from playing CTL, and letting the leader kill me five times before picking him up... but i figured itd be too slow to bother trying more that way

Bleszinski: 'Code magic' can still squeeze power out of 360

@jackal because the market is bigger for the established console, and a good looking game on an older system that outshines its peers will sell far better than a slightly better looking game released on a system that few people have that will age poorly as it wasn't optimized for the new platform...

I see what you're saying about wanting to realize your artistic vision, or maximize your graphical fidelity, but from a business standpoint it doesn't always make sense.

Bulletstorm worth making despite not being profitable, says Epic

@copa Its a real shame... I was hyped, played the demo, didn't feel it... but then a friend played and got a better score, so I played it again just to one up him... next thing I know I 'got the game' in both the spiritual and spending dollahbonez way. Its a game you have to play a bit to really see if you like, because until you do, you don't realize the creativity, and the fun of teamwork killing online...

that said, once the gow3 beta came out it got shelved, and I honestly haven't played a game since the beta ended... competitive multiplayer seemed like a no-brainer to me... I realize that it would be harder, but it would be that much better... as you get thumped into the air by an enemy, suddenly combat could be so different as you could leash him up after you etc etc... saddening

Hero 30 Second set for August 4 in Japan

@Red Runner the original game was called Hero 30, so this is the sequel, Hero 30 Second (as in 2nd, related to the fact it is a sequel...).

That said... I want to rearrange it to 30 second hero myself every time i read it

Duty Calls downloaded over 1.25 million times

@WhiteShield I realize what you were trying to get at... but when you said 'not everyone will get it on the 360' you failed to acknowledge that it is a bonus for some buyers, and the buyers who get in on the other console clearly didn't mind the lack of incentive... so the people who get it on something other than the 360 (ps3) are, in a sense, additional

Duty Calls: Bulletstorm spoofs Call of Duty with free game (and we've got the full walkthrough vid)

@gatotsu911 I suppose that would work, except they wouldn't care, I doubt they are taking themselves that seriously... only the people calling them out would appreciate it, and to many, they would just appear to be missing the point...

if you want a drama, dont watch an action and complain its not drama.... etc

only those who take things seriously could be offended by mockery
