Sony maintains PS3 shipment targets despite shortages

Keyword here is "Shipment Targets".

But I was under the impression that Sony revised it to 1 million.

Sony's BD Remote control for PS3

Oct 3rd 2006 12:11PM (Engadget)
>>You can't leave the room with BlueTooth. That's another problem. The range is a fraction of IR, even with obstacles. A high powered IR remote with multiple diodes can be pointed anywhere and still reach its target.

Yes, you can leave the room, BT can go up to ~100 meters. It depends on what class BT you are using, class 1 is ~1M, but class 2 is ~10M, and class 3 is ~100m. I'm sure for a remote it'll be Class 2 or Class 3 due to the fact it uses little power requirements to change channels and only transmits in short bursts. IR has a lot of line-of-sight problems, BT will be worlds better then IR.

Denon's new 1080p upscaling DVD players

Jul 28th 2006 6:54AM (Engadget)
>>"Isn't it better to just buy a $500 HD-DVD player that also upscales DVD's?"

You can buy a DVD player for few hundred bucks that upscales DVDs, and don't have to spend $500 bucks. For those types of users the DVD-1930CI ($369) should be enough.

However, Denon's are not for people that say go buy a mediacenter PC or can't afford it, they are usually for people with great hometheaters, usally a projection system, that requires good upscaling for content to be shown on the large screen.

If you have a smaller screen, the 1930CI Denon or somthing like a NeuNeo HVD2085 ($250) can do 1080p like the mediacenterPC or HD-DVD player for a hell of lot less then those two setups.

Sony unveils HD options with HDR-UX1 AVCHD cam alongside HDD unit

Jul 19th 2006 8:53AM (Engadget)
>>After buying one of Sony's handheld camcorders about 4 years ago with the new MicroMV format, I'll never buy another Sony product with proprietary formats again.

You're full of sh*t, this camera doesn't use any Sony proprietary format. AVCHD is ISO-standard MPEG4, and is the exact same format that Apple and eveyone else is the promoting; the H.264 codec. Also, the recording format is mini-DVDs or a HDD; can't get more non-propreitary then that.

As far as editing, since AVC is pretty much the main commercial MPEG4 format that everyone is using now (used in the video iPod and PSP), programs like Final Cut Pro can easily edit it; however it can't be edited on the tape like DV, but nobody does that anymore anyway.

To "Steve Jobs":

Only Panasonic that can do 1080p is the AG-HVX2000 that costs $6,000, Sony also has a 1080p camera but its more for professional use and costs. Sony is developing a 1080p camra for rich prosumers but don't expect it to have the three of the massive half-inch CCDs.

Panasonic's 103-incher gets model, price

Jul 19th 2006 8:50AM (Engadget)
Being that the unit is aimed primarily at buisnesses rather then consumers the price may be shocking but probably in the price range of Malls, Stores, or Sports Bars etc that want a massive display.

Though I'm sure some millionares may buy it, I think it will be a small percent of the 5,000 Panasonic intends to sell.
