@tendoboy1984 Microsoft only counts Xbox Live users that are active within the past six months. Sony combined several services together a few years back and put them under the PSN umbrella and counts every account whether active or not. Thats why they were reporting rapid increases far beyond devices being sold. Registered Xbox Live accounts are higher than reported and active PSN accounts are lower than reported. The percentage of actually active users on both consoles are very close to each other relative to the number of devices each has online.

@Uberdave Go back a few years shortly after the PS3 was released and Sony was claiming shortages, how well it was selling, etc. They had claimed that several million were already sold. After it was discovered something like 1 - 2 million PS3's were sitting in a warehouse waiting to be shipped, Sony had to acknowledge that when they manufacture a console they "consider it sold", so those numbers are included in sales in press releases. They need to file reports to various groups like the SEC in which they must state actual sales of their products, which is why the Sony numbers are always a few million or so lower then what they announce to the press. Microsoft and Nintendo filings match their press releases.

Basically it's this, if a Sony products comes off the assembly line they consider it SOLD and count it as such. Microsoft and Nintendo do not.

One of the my favorites concerts, but certainly the most memorable. Meeting up with friends in Brussels to see Dokken, Twisted Sister and Accept in 1986. One friend got so drunk that after passing through the turn-style in the building he fell face first to the floor and was dead (as in no heartbeat anymore). Security did CPR on him and brought him back to life. They rushed him to the hospital and a couple friends went with him. The rest of us went in and saw the show from right next to the stage. Got hit by a few guitar picks too. What a weird, heartbroken, worrisome, and fun night...

I started reading this site about 2 years ago when I got my first iPhone. Was looking for gaming sites that I could read while away from home. Was glad too when you folks made some iPhone friendly versions of the site.

And the 2 million consoles in one month is a 800,600 decrease from 2007. November was a 524,000 decrease in sales for the Playstation brand.

The PS3 is down 159,000 this holiday season from 2007 holiday season, PS2 down 980,000, and PSP down 216,000.

The Wii, DS and Xbox 360 are all up from the 2007 holiday season (Xbox360 is up 246,000, I didn't bother calculating the DS or Wii). So spin it how you want, these are just the facts... and feel free to look them up before posting.

You're thinking of the PS2. Seems like everyone has bought two or three of them to replace them as they break. If the 360 has a problem people send it to Microsoft for repair.
