What to do with your old iPhone

Jun 23rd 2010 12:46AM (TUAW.com)
You could also donate it to someone. If you jailbreak it, it could easily be used as an iPod touch with a camera. A friend of mine had an unused 2G lying around and I managed to convince him to give it to me so I could give to my sister to use as a game machine. It's worked well so far. I hacked it, obviously, because I don't have a SIM card, and there's just so much you can do with a jailbroken iPhone that you couldn't do otherwise.

He's should be getting a 3GS in a few weeks, so hopefully I'll inherit his 3G.

Dear Auntie TUAW: I've got a great idea, now what?

More than one way to stream Bluetooth

Dec 20th 2009 6:19PM (TUAW.com)
If your car has a 3.5mm input, then just get a cheap cable off Monoprice. You don't need to buy a Bluetooth adapter to get in between your iPod/iPhone and your car when you can just connect them directly with a

It's the Feds! FCC quizzes Apple, AT&T and Google about Google Voice apps

Aug 2nd 2009 12:18PM (TUAW.com)
Did you read the letters? Right there on the Google letter, it says:

"Please provide a description of the proposed Google Voice application for iPhone. What are the key features, and how does it operate (over a voice or data network, etc.)"

They don't mention VoIP at all. They ask if Google operates over the voice network (AT&T, where calls are normally placed) or a data network (Wi-Fi, Internet, etc.) FCC is playing dumb because they need to hear it from Google, AT&T and Apple themselves. They can't assume that GV isn't VoIP. They need to be told it isn't.

Ask TUAW: AirPort Extreme bridge, iTunes smart playlists, USB drive backup, and more

Yes, you can buy a cheap Linksys router. The one I have with Tomato firmware installed has a WDS option. It also has four Ethernet ports on the back. No USB ports, but it works.

Ask TUAW: AirPort Extreme bridge, iTunes smart playlists, USB drive backup, and more

About the first question... why would you spend $180 on an AirPort Extreme to do the same task as a cheap, barebones Linksys router (with Tomato installed of course)? The Xbox 360 uses Ethernet obviously, and I'm guessing Mike's file server does to.

Found Footage: Why we use a Mac

Jul 30th 2009 12:34AM (TUAW.com)
I realize this is an Apple blog and all... but I wish this video had better reasons for using a Mac... I don't know... but in my Windows experience, I haven't contracted viruses (other people in my family have, so I installed Ubuntu, which I have fallen in love with), I have only gotten BSODs when hardware was failing, and Registry errors? Sorry, I don't go digging around in there deleting keys. Rarely do I edit my Registry.

The only one that really got on my nerves was the guy who liked Macs for their customization. I agree - you can a lot with a Mac - but you do a whole heck of a lot with Windows as well.

Nvidia expands PhysX toolset to Wii

But wait... on Wikipedia it says Sonic and the Secret Rings uses the PhysX engine... in other words, PhysX has been on the Wii for a while now...

I'm pretty sure (like 99% sure) that the DSi supports WPA.
