ESL interviews Tom Chilton

Girlfriend? I always thought he was gay. Seriously. Well, anyway, Tigole has to be. hehe Was there any truth to the rumors that Jeffrey Kaplan was dating Alex Afrasiabi?

Mega Man demo released for Atari 2600

Ok, I grew up in the NES/SNES/N64 era. Making Goldeneye be this incredible, awesome game has to stop. It's in the same league as Final Fantasy 7. Good game. One of the better ones in that generation. WAY overrated.

Ask Engadget: Best gaming laptop for under $1,500?

Jun 26th 2009 9:22AM (Engadget)
Bashing Macs is kind of the gadget blog du jour right now. ;) It's not the cheapest machine out there, but the MacBook Pros (the ones with the dedicated cards, not the POS ones with only the 9400) are actually suprisingly good at gaming. As I mentioned in another reply, I'm getting about 6000 in 3DMark06, Windows 7 RC, which is respectable for a 5.5 lb machine that gets about 6 hours of battery life when I flip it to integrated. It wasn't cheap (about $1750 with employee purchase program discounts) but it's a nice machine. I like it.

I concur on the MacBook Pro mentioned earlier (the cheapest model they have with the dedicated card). I recently bought one and it gets a respectable 6000 in 3DMark on Windows 7. However, it's actually a laptop, not a 12 lb. cinderblock like some gaming laptops are. Plus, I've been impressed with the battery life when on the 9400 card (I'm getting about 6 hours internet + music). If you get past the whole "Macs are gay" thing and look at the specs, it's actually a nice machine. Buy it with an employee purchase program discount (Google it) and you can get it for around $1750.

MacBook Pro (mid 2009) in-depth impressions

Kind of wondering what they were doing on the 15" to only get that amount of battery life. I've been hammering on my new one and I get close to 6 hours (using the integrated card -- when I'm plugged in I switch to the dedicated). I never used the Expresscard slot. Performance-wise it's an excellent machine.

TUAW Tip: Saving InDesign CS4 files for InDesign CS2

May 8th 2009 4:31PM (TUAW.com)
"Here's a frustrating problem: You have InDesign CS4, and your buddy needs your file, but has InDesign CS2."

Neither me nor my buddy uses InDesign. Heck, I'd venture to say the majority of people who own a Mac nowadays aren't even involved in art. Can we get back the mentality that Macs are primarily used by publishers? That ended sometime around the Intel switch.

Apple to replace water-damaged iPhones via out-of-warranty service

May 5th 2009 10:26AM (TUAW.com)
They most certainly did not do this previously for water-logged replacement phones. I bought a 3G and a week later (stupidly) left it in a pair of pants that went through the washer. I ended up having to spend $800 in two weeks. $300 for the first phone, $500 for the second (which they did not cover under subsidy). Plus, it ended up extending my 2 year contract 1 additional week. While I don't think Apple should've necessarily covered me, their policy before was pretty much "you left it in the rain, pony up full price".

Actually, it's more like watching football with that loud-mouth, racist coach on the sideline. He may get his team to win, but goddang it is he annoying.
