Sony's new WiFi-free PSP is targeting teens

Sep 5th 2011 11:59PM (Joystiq)
@Lucky48
Given Sony's track-record with download-only PSP devices (re: PSP Go), only a gambler would take a chance on the Vita. As an owner of a PSP 2000 and a former owner of a PSP Go, I have no interest in the Vita. Sony completely fumbled the handling of the Go (which I thought was an excellent device and actually a unique media player thanks to the SensMe Channels).

This WiFi-less PSP is just the "classic" that is needed for those of us who want to remain playing UMD-based games.

Alarm Dock gives your iPhone retro cred

$40 for a piece of machined wood? $5 would be the upper limit of reasonable for it.

Nice idea though.

What does the Skype sale mean for Apple customers?

Tell that to the fans of the Sidekick feature phones when MS bought out Danger (company that produced the Sidekick)... 3 years later MS released the KIN and discontinued it within 30 days of release.

Instapaper's free version goes on extended hiatus, dev explains why

Apr 28th 2011 6:40PM (TUAW.com)
That's a pretty silly comment. There is a very valid reason not to pay for Instapaper... it doesn't fit a person's need.

Without the option for a refund (like a 24 hour period after initial purchase) how else can a person test drive an app without paying for it except for a limited-function free version?

If anything, the developer should consider making the free version more limited.

I have absolutely no problem paying for apps, but I want to know that what I'm paying for will fit the need that I'm looking to address.

It is quite bizarre that people are applauding the elimination of a try-before-you-buy option.

Google Wave flatlines: no plans to further develop standalone product, future is in other Google services

Aug 4th 2010 6:35PM (Engadget)
The primary reason why Google Wave failed was that they used their "invite" model to restrict access to Wave. Why they expected a COLLABORATION tool to be tested without the ability to communicate with others remains a mystery.

Joyswag: Risk: Black Ops board game & Risk: Factions XBLA codes

Jun 22nd 2010 4:38PM (Joystiq)
Risk: Black Ops is beautiful and I promise to care for it, always.

And I know what I'm talking about. I still have my 1968 Cadaco All-Star Baseball game with player discs that I received as a gift in .... 1968!

Preview: Dead Rising 2: Case Zero (XBLA)

Jun 17th 2010 9:16PM (Joystiq)
Fantastic news! DEAD RISING was the game that I missed the most when I traded in my 360 for a PS3. Now with the new whisper quiet 360, DR2:C0 and DR2 being released, it's a no-brainer.... or should I say, "BRAAAAINZ!"

Behind the scenes with Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 team: 'I think about this really as a first release'

Jun 17th 2010 6:49PM (Engadget)
@Wesscoast
That's some spin there. Microsoft has had a mobile OS in one form or another for over 10 years. If you believe that WinPho7 was written completely from scratch then I have some nice land in the Everglades for you to buy. Lack of backward compatibility is NOT "proof" that it was written from scratch.

Look at that quote carefully. He said that he thinks about it as a first release. That's how he is viewing it. Not that it IS. The only reason to view it as a first release is to set expectations low.

Behind the scenes with Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 team: 'I think about this really as a first release'

"I think about this really as a first release" is codespeak for, "WinPho7 is going to be severely gimped so don't expect much."
