Dragon Quest IX announced as DS exclusive
Dec 12th 2006 9:52AM (Joystiq)Maybe Square isn't sure which console will win in Japan (*cough*wii*cough*) but know that the DS is hotter than every other console.
EA interested in Crytek acquisition, reports German newspaper
Aug 28th 2006 7:39PM (Joystiq)1. They get shut down / employees quit while EA just takes their popular franchise and the entire development team just gets reformed anyway but can't use their old name or franchises (as in westwood studios > the develper behind star wars: empire at war)
2. EA owns their soul and forces them to only churn out sequels to their popular franchise and to never make anything that's original.

Jul 26th 2006 9:48AM (Joystiq)Nintendo plays numbers game, wins!
Jul 25th 2006 2:12PM (Joystiq)In its first year, the iPod was ONLY FOR MACS. The PC version didn't come out until later. Back then, only about 15 million people had macs modern enough to work with the ipod, so it couldn't have possibly beat the DS's numbers.
How will British standby laws affect consoles? [update 1]
Jul 20th 2006 4:38PM (Joystiq)Anything with a remote control requires power use to power the part of the system that controls on/off remotely.
so basically, you'll have to get up to turn on the tv (but not to turn it off or change channels, etc)
This is a pretty big inconvenience, but for 8 percent energy savings, i think it's worth it.
Sony is still the #1 brand, seven years in a row
Jul 13th 2006 9:30PM (Joystiq)And don't say "well why did the Dreamcast flop? It had great games!" Well, it didn't flop. It sold extremely well. But Sega couldn't keep selling loss-leading systems because of its two previous console failures (saturn and genesis addons).
The only game console to EVER be affected by anything besides game quality was the PS2, and that's simply because of the extremely cheap DVD playback, and DVD happened to be a VERY much needed replacement of cruddy VHS technology. Blu-ray cannot make that kind of splash since #1 DVD quality is good, and a lot of people actually think that DVDs are pretty much the same as HD and #2 Blu-ray requires extremely expensive hardware upgrades just to see a difference in quality.

Jul 13th 2006 12:43AM (Joystiq)...and take it directly into the failed Sony formats whore house.
EU hits Microsoft with $357 million fine
Jul 12th 2006 3:21PM (Engadget)EU hits Microsoft with $357 million fine
Jul 12th 2006 3:16PM (Engadget)#1 Bundled media players are necessary to compete with competitors like Apple and Linux based systems.
#2 Microsoft is NOT a monopoly, since Apple and Linux both compete. There are commercial Linux distros, 60% of the world's web pages are hosted on Linux, 10% of computers either use Mac or Linux, Microsoft is in the lead but there are global companies competing with it.
Okay let's say you un-bundle IE. HOW THE HELL ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DOWNLOAD ANOTHER WEB BROWSER WITHOUT FIRST HAVING IE INSTALLED IN THE SYSTEM???
Let's let Microsoft's competitors bundle whatever the hell they want, though!
I'm actually mostly a machead, and I don't like Microsoft's products, but credit is due to them for really investing their own money and talent into their OS, and it's theres, and it's not the EU's job to water it down or give away its code unless Microsoft is in a true monopoly, which it's NOT.
