PS3 catching up with Xbox 360 shipments worldwide

This is old, but i can't find anything newer
Also, if you really need stats to show that there are more XBL Gold users (for a few years now) than PSN users, then you are obviously living under a rock.

Rare: There 'isn't a need' to go back to classic series

Mar 29th 2010 6:02PM (Joystiq)
People can blame Microsoft for Rare's lack of performance, but that would be wrong. Under Microsoft, Rare has worked on franchises that it created, Perfect Dark and Banjo and still did not find success. VP and Kameo were commercial failures too.
All those titles aside, Rare has released only 1 full title in the last couple of year, and you cannot be considered a top tier studio if you do that (unless you are bungie, and that one title is Halo).
Fact of the matter is, Rare is to blame for Rare's lack of success, because they just haven't produced enough quality or enough titles for the X360.

Firm considers class action over Xbox Live bannings

Nov 19th 2009 2:25PM (Joystiq)
Lets get one thing straight. Users who Mod their consoles, and put it on live are probably (percentage wise) the biggest cheaters.
There is good reason to ban these consoles, as Microsoft would like to keep cheating as low as possible for the biggest launch of the year. Its that simple.

Why Shadow Complex credits a multiplayer tester

Aug 19th 2009 8:11PM (Joystiq)
So T.J. is/was a tester at Microsoft. And he generally works with Multiplayer compliance for all sorts of games.
These are tests that every title needs to pass, so even though they are in the Multiplayer area, they are applicable to all titles.
The credits are just incorrect, he could have been marked as Compliance Tester.

BioShock 2 given another helping hand in Arkane Studios

Jul 10th 2009 11:36AM (Joystiq)
Welcome to the age of over-reaction. Where every small news story gets a "I'm so concerned about this" now.
If Bioshock 2 sucks, its not because it had 4 different studios attached to it, it'll probably be because there didn't need to be a Bioshock 2.
Adding more studios doesn't mean they will be "designing" things ... they mostly were added to finish off coding and content work. This is common practice in any (software) development cycle, and is very common in gaming. Its All Hands on Deck time, time to get the game out.
Its not like there is designing happening this late anyways, the game "should" be in the final push to release.

Bleszinski sees RPGs as key to the shooter's future

You can skip the cut scenes and the forced walks using the back button

It's no stretch that Halo: Reach could use Natal

Jun 29th 2009 2:15PM (Joystiq)
People have lost imagination here. You don't have to use Natal for everything, you only have to use it for a little bit of gimmicky stuff (Think how early PS3 games used the tilt)
For Example, you could use Natal to track head movements to look around/over cover.
i bet bungie has better ideas for it.

Survey says: Without 'Call of Duty,' Modern Warfare 2 is less recognizable brand

Jun 24th 2009 5:45PM (Joystiq)
This isn't a surprise. WaW sold a gazillion copies, being such a generic shooter. Solid, no doubt, but it sold because of the name.
Activision might just rename MW2 to COD6:MW2 ..... that just sounds dumb.
