No, Michael Jackson does not own the rights to the Beatles' songs. In fact, he never really did. He just owned the publishing rights, which meant that he had the right to make a profit every time a Beatles song was used. This is what Jackson acquired back in the mid 80s, the Beatles' Apple Records still retained the rights to all the the original recordings. Because of debt problems, Jackson sold half his share of the publishing rights to Sony and and then gave up the rest of the rights a year or two ago b/c he defaulted on certain payments.
So it would be correct to say that Sony and Apple Records will make a ton of money off of this.
I'm not positive, but I think Kim may have been confused when Game Informer said "It was shown at both conferences". Maybe Shane Kim thought GI was referring to the trailer itself?
EclipseCDN, those gameplay possibilities don't sound like anything new and I'm talking about innovations. What you're describing sounds like better presentation and certainly enchanced gameplay from a traditional point of view. For me, innovation has more to do with something that's fresh, different, and new. If you think Wii doesn't have that, then I will just have to respect your opinion.
Also, I still wonder what people would've wanted Nintendo to do. I mean, I'm all for better graphics and better online play. However, would you have wanted Nintendo to bring out the same old controller? I think that would've only hurt the company. If you think Nintendo had been spinning its wheels before, just think about how stale they would've been with the same gamepad.
In response to #5, how do PS3 and 360 offer more possibilities in gameplay innovation? Please explain.
Also, tell me what you think Nintendo should've done instead. Should they have brought out a system similar to the 360 and PS3? I think the sales would've been lackluster if they had went that route. Instead they decided to try to differentiate themselves and so far it has paid off.
Speaking of ratings, anyone know what Hitman will be rated? I would be surprised if it is Rated R. It will probably be rated PG-13 and, much like Live Free or Die Hard, it will probably suck.
Good post E-Roc, I was going to make a similar point. Companies have to do what's best for them. Some may say that the demographic isn't there with the Wii for truly great hardcore games. Until we see an excellent, built from the ground-up 3rd party title, we won't ever really know.
That's why Manhunt 2 could be something big. I know that it has a lot of controversy surrounding it, but it was also built from the ground up by Rockstar Toronto. The game may have started off on PS2, but Rockstar really took the time to upgrade the graphics and implement the controls to make the game work. If gamers buy it up, Rockstar and other developers will have proof that well made hardcore games can indeed thrive on the Wii.
It's just too premature to come out with this kind of article. We'll have to wait and see if the Wii has any legs. I think we will have a clearer picture by early 2009.
