In response to #12: Matt Casamassaina is actually pretty level headed. I have rarely found him to ever act like some Nintendo fanboy. In fact, I think he has been accused by some of the Nintendo faithful of being too critical.
Has Casmassina given too many overly positive reviews of Wii titles? I don't think so. Recently, he hasn't expressed that much excitement or optimism over the new NiGHTS game. I'm not sure where you get the impression that he is a fanboy.
IGN Wii's Wii-k in Review Podcast. Matt Cassamassina and Mark Bozon had absolutely glowing things to say about their play time with Manhunt 2 (unfortunately they couldn't say too much about it b/c of an embargo). They also go over the NPD sales chart.
Even though I find the Halo games to be vastly overrated, I have to admit that I have never seen anything quite like this. System launches? Sure, but never this kind of anticipation for a game, at least not here in America. Halo 3 has a lot to live up to.
Wow, those commercials were actually pretty good. Nintendo has had the distinction of not having the slickest and most creative television advertisements. I don't know if these ads were necessarily creative, but they certainly got the point of the Wii across to the viewer. I never really was impressed with the 360 commercials at launch and the PS3 ads have been pretty abysmal.
I still have no plans to get a Wii anytime soon, but I have to give credit to Nintendo. Job well done.
I wish people would stop perpetuating this rumor about the Wii having some sort of secret graphic power that no one knows about. What you see with the Wii is what you get.
georgedakota, you're right. The Wii won't be as powerful as other consoles, like the DS. The Wii will feature "gimmicky" controls, just like the DS. The Wii will have tons of these simple games, like the DS. In fact, I bet you that the Wii will probably be about as successful as the DS has been. People don't want simple games, they want more power and better graphics. That's the reason the DS hasn't been more popular...
In response to 32_Footstep's post: "Kind of reminds me how everyone praises Wil Wright's Spore despite the fact that pretty much nobody has played it."
That's not really true since 1UP.com has already written their impressions of playing Spore and just recently Next-Generation did the same. In fact, Next-Generation admitted that they didn't normally do previews, but Wright had invited them to play Spore so they decided to write one up.
