Netflix streaming to UK, Ireland in 'early 2012'

Oct 24th 2011 10:44AM (Joystiq)
Currently, I find the LoveFilm streaming service pretty limited in what they actually offer (only just over 4000 titles available for streaming) - certainly nothing like the range that Netflix appears to have in the US. This limited range is, presumably, down the copyright deals that LoveFilm have been able to cut in the UK - the big question, therefore, is whether Netflix are able to get better deals and, hence, a wider range of titles than LoveFilm.

Microsoft Kin One and Two review

May 6th 2010 9:18AM (Engadget)
@David Bailey At least in the UK, we have sensibly priced data plans. You generally seem to be able to get a good unlimited data plan for around £5. My wife, for example, has a reasonable voice plan and unlimited data for a total of £20 per month. $30 for data and then $40 for voice seems almost criminal to me!

Netflix earnings, subscribers and streaming growth have analysts drooling over a theoretical Amazon buy

Jan 29th 2010 1:31PM (Engadget)
@Sarcasme In the UK, Amazon used to have their own DVD rental service. However, this was then taken over by "LoveFilm", which is the UK equivalent of Netflix (where, by equivalent, I obviously mean "similar, but not as good").

Rare: 'No shortage of possibilities' for revisiting IP

Jan 20th 2010 4:50PM (Joystiq)
How about some of the old Ultimate Play the Game properties - we had Jetpac refuelled, so how about an HD version of Atic Attack or Sabre Wulf?

Or maybe I'm just too old to remember those fondly!

i-Mate shutting down Momento Live digiframe service

Jan 27th 2009 6:42AM (Engadget)
I'm very disappointed by this news from Momento. My wife and I bought an iMate 70 frame for my parents a year ago and it's been fantastic to be able to use FrameChannel to push them updated pictures of our new daughter.

Given my non-tech savvy parents, it's ability to pick up an RSS feed from FrameChannel was the main selling point for me - without this, it's suddenly going to lose much of it's worth.

I might try this "getdropbox" service that zxcvbn mentioned instead...

Metareview (Euro Edition) -- Civilization Revolution (Xbox 360, PS3)

Jun 25th 2008 4:21AM (Joystiq)
My situation entirely - with a young family, I just don't have time to spend days playing Civ 4 on the PC. Civ Rev is a good way to get a simple Civ fix in limited time.

For diehard Civ fans, its clearly no replacement for Civ 4, and I'd be surprised if it is being marketed as one [I haven't seen any ads, so I may be wrong]. For more casual players, I think it has been put together very well - the controls are easy to get to grips with and it encompasses much of what is good about Civ, whilst doing away with lots of the micromanagement.

Yes, it's not perfect (mini-map, anyone? more customizable worlds?), but it's not bad!

UK to get PGR3 bundle September 22?

Sep 20th 2006 7:21AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I decided I couldn't wait another 3 days for the rumoured bundle so used some flawed logic to convince myself that a current store bundle was almost as good. It clearly wasn't, but I have no friends so don't need two controllers anyway!

UK to get PGR3 bundle September 22?

Sep 19th 2006 4:19AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Here I am, didn't buy a 360 in the US because I knew I was going to be moving back to the UK (and, quite frankly, I couldn't find one anywhere for so long that I just played WoW instead).

Now, have moved back to the UK, but didn't buy a 360 because I was waiting for my HD TV to arrive.

TV arrives yesterday, and now I see that I should hold off buying a 360 until Friday!

What news will Friday bring to delay me even more?

Breakfast Topic: Favourite Addons

Mar 24th 2006 11:59AM (WoW)
When I first started playing, the first set of addons I cam across was Cosmos, and I've pretty much stuck with that for the past 9 months. I tend to use most of the addons in that package which aren't specific to any non-hunter class. As it is such a part of my game, I can't actually work out which I explicitly use more than others (they are all just "my UI"), although I think MobInfo2 and Archeologist are ones I miss when they break on patch day (these are the ones that tell me how many HP my current target has and what kind of loot they've given in the past).

I also use archeologist and its sister "informant" - I agree, though, that you have to take the auction values with a pinch of salt. I tend to pay more attention to what it reports about known bids. In other words, if it reports a median buyout of 10G, but only 5% of the items have ever been bidded on (at an average of 10s) then that will certainly affect what I ask in the AH (and may even prompt me to sell to a vendor).

I've just started using TitanPanel - not sure it gives me that much more than I had before (although I've only really played with the default package). I've also just found a useful set of hunter library functions (http://www.tkasomething.com/zorlenfaq.php). Have only been playing with these for a couple of days, but they have already given me some useful macros...

Inventory Management

Feb 17th 2006 12:24PM (WoW)
I hadn't realised there had been some special super-size bags introduced in the recent patch. I wonder if they'll bring out anything for skinners/leatherworkers...

As a hunter, I do find bag space a right pain. I have no different sets of gear (how can anyone afford the space), and tend to have my bags used as follows:

- 1 - Permanent stuff (like skinning knife, Ram, etc.) and quest stuff (like the stuff you need to take to X, or the tool you need to collect Y).

- 2 - Ammo pouch

- 3 - Leatherworking stuff (skins, thread, dye, etc.)

- 4 - Ingredients for cooking

- 5 - Food for my pet

Once I've cleaned out my bags by selling stuff at the end of a session, I start the next one with between 6 and 10 free slots (normally in bags 3 - 5). Half an hour out grinding in an area, though, and these are pretty much full and I start having to make decisions based on what Auctioneer tells me stuff is worth!

I do use the bank for some stuff, but I find that a bit of a pain (mainly because I only remember as I've jumped on the giffon from Ironforge that the thing I need for the quest I'm flying to is in the bank).
