Dragon Quest X coming to Wii
Dec 10th 2008 2:37AM (Joystiq)Wii is completely stuck in the past. Wiimote control has been proven to gamers by this point to be basically a big gimmick. Even Nintendo's biggest 1st party Wii games are / would be better played without the Wiimote. The problem is design, online support, hardware, basically every aspect of the Wii is out of date. I'd say Wii itself is more forward thinking than the Dragon Quest series though.
Dragon Quest X coming to Wii
Dec 10th 2008 2:33AM (Joystiq)In Japan, I think DQ10 is smart enough on Wii, smarter to put it on DS, but maybe the development cycle will be so long even DSi will be obsolete by then, who knows.
But it's still very disappointing, but I think expecting anything different about the MOST TRADITIONAL JRPG is expecting too much.
Dragon Quest X coming to Wii
Dec 10th 2008 2:22AM (Joystiq)I think the stuck in the past attitude of the Wii works well enough for the DQ series, and any 'moving on' would have only hurt the appeal inside Japan. I guess the Japanese market is destined to only shrink to non-importance.
Behold Japan's Resident Evil 5 LE, with console-specific extras
Dec 2nd 2008 12:01AM (Joystiq)No PC version has been announced yet actually, Street Fighter 4 has been announced for PC though. Lost Planet sold very well on PC (for a PC game at least), but Devil May Cry 4 tanked on PC, so I guess we'll see. RE5 seems like a much better fit for PC than SF4.
Forbes: Nintendo making $6 profit on every Wii sold
Dec 1st 2008 11:58PM (Joystiq)I really doubt those software sales are accurate as well, even looking at 1st party Nintendo sales. Look at how many 360's have been sold with a >8:1 tie ratio and then look at how many Wiis have been sold with a lower tie ratio (5:1? 6:1?) The numbers don't add up.
The Behemoth still tinkering with that Castle Crashers patch
Dec 1st 2008 7:22PM (Joystiq)First off, the game is FAR from broken, but it does has some severe bugs. I've put dozens of hours into the SP AND I've been able to play online / same screen MP extensively and never ran into any problems.
As far as fixing these bugs, it is odd that it has taken so long, but why is the development time of the game relevant at all? Where are all the other articles on Joystiq about having to pay $150 to get their PS3 fixed (which is at least as common as 360's dying these days), or how Super Smash Bros Brawl took 3 months to be able to play online properly?
Burnout Paradise's Big Surf Island now premium DLC

Didn't you notice the multiple free updates the game has gotten already? Odds are EA PAID (a relatively small fee) for those to be put up for free. Now EA's going to be getting money instead. MS probably does still charge developers for content that is put up, but Valve is frankly probably trying to secure the PC gaming market because of all the money they make on Steam. Sure Valve could reward the millions of console buyers of The Orange Box, but they choose not to. Hopefully they'll change their attitude with Left 4 Dead, especially considering how the game has sold more on 360 than PC.
@DigDug
Has there been any content that was up for free on PSN but charged for on Live? I don't think so.
@Jakka
People still play TF2 on Live. I think Live games actually retain more players than other platform's games, but there's simply more online games available on Live. On PC you still have a handful of people playing old classics like Quake 1, but smaller tier titles get abandoned even more quickly.
Ken Moore's Wiimote theremin hack explores the final frontier
Nov 30th 2008 2:29PM (Joystiq)These videos always come off more as a Nintendo PR video than about the 'hack' that was designed.
Rumor: Fable 2 coming to PC in February
Nov 29th 2008 5:44PM (Joystiq)Even in one year's time there's been a lot of big games released on 360. PS3 is a fine system too, and many of its games rival the 360's releases, but I think 360 has the edge.
I didn't say 95% of PC games are ports, I was talking about the 95% of console games that get ported to PC not being upgraded in any important way. The biggest improvement is higher resolutions & framerates on higher end PCs, but that's just graphics. They also add in DRM and quite a few times extra bugs as well. I think a bug-free game is more important than somewhat better graphics (which usually doesn't include higher resolution textures or better effects as console -> PC ports USED to be).
I think calling something like Oblivion or Left 4 Dead gimped on consoles in any way is very wrong. I own Oblivion on PC as well as 360, I even made an early mod for Oblivion that was kind of popular. However, I've played the 360 version probably 10 times as much as the PC version. There's a real argument for RTS ports to 360, because the gamepad really doesn't work well for those Dune/Warcraft clone type games.
I only wish PC gaming would die based upon the fanbase. Hey there are some cool people into PC gaming that I know personally, but they're such an annoying fanboy base on the net, I can't help but hate them.
There are certainly more games on PC than 360, but PC gaming was around for many decades now. If you don't count flash or very small developed games, I think 360 gets more games per year now, especially with the new XNA games.
I don't think the PC is completely irrelevant, but I think it really is starting to become irrelevant for these high production value games (big titles). There are a lot of great freeware / flash / small dev games, and I think those will continue to do well on PC until the platform becomes irrelevant in a hardware-sense.
Zelda director won't quit until he surpasses Ocarina of Time
Nov 29th 2008 4:33PM (Joystiq)Well that's certainly what the series has BECOME, but it didn't start that way. There were always puzzles, but it was first and foremost an adventure game with plenty of action, and that's what I personally would like back.
