"Dmitri" and the anonymous source

Oct 8th 2006 1:29PM (Joystiq)
Dimitri realy isn't an anonymous source. The interview was with him about his own views and actions, which were originaly expressed anonymously. He's not a guy in the shadows of a parking garage, more like a guy with a rifle and a mask on cheap video.

Nintendo "Revolution" now called "Wii" [update 6]

Apr 27th 2006 4:59PM (Joystiq)
At first I felt like I was being stupid for dreading my future embarrassment over this horrible, horrible, realy truly awful name. I realy felt ashamed of myself for not being mature about the hideous name the console has been saddled with.
After talking to my 7 year old neice, who I regularly play animal crossing and harvest moon with, that all changed. She realy, realy hates this, she thinks it's an embarrasing, stupid name that she doesn't want to have to say.
If she's embarrased by this then I can be embarrased by it too. Maybe it's OK to hate the name Wii. Perhaps we're not immature just because we don't want to publicly use a noun that's also used as a cute euphemism for urine or the male genitalia. It just might be possible that a 7 year old girl is just too honest to be shamed into accepting an embarrasing, hideous, terrible name by the phrase "grow up."
If not, then I'm comfortable with being immature on this issue, and will continue to call it the revoloution regardless of what it may say on the box.

Xbox 360 MMO wishlist

Jan 17th 2006 3:51PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Guild Wars isn't an mmo. If you check out their official website ArenaNet themselves don't consider Guild Wars an mmo. Other than the towns the entire game is instanced. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad game and I can totaly see why other people like it, but the comparison you're making just doesn't work.

Xbox 360 MMO wishlist

Full Xbox Live integration
I can't argue with this, if I'm just grinding skills or levels I want the option of getting invitations to play DOA or whatever.
Sensible fees
Doing away with extra fees is a great idea. They should totaly run dozens of servers, each hosting an epic game world, each capable of thousands of simultaneous connections, for no money. Incedently you should start running the entire joystiq network with no advertising. You don't need money to run servers right?
Voice power
Flexible communication options, yes. Voice transforms, no. Voice transforms aren't going to get any better and they're an abomination that should be dragged out and shot right now. I'm so sick of idiots with 'robot voices' or even 'female voices' saying "risle fra. gen fin see deel." And when you invariably ask "what?" they yell "RISLE FRA. GEN FIN SEE DEEL!" like you're the idiot...
Console friendly
I think you should stick with purely console RPGs.
Fight! Fight!
I love the 360 controller, It's honestly my favorite console controller ever. but people need to stop pretending that it's the best possible input for all games. What you're describing has already been done, it's called world of warcraft, and you need a keyboard and mouse to play it. You can already hook up the keyboard to the 360, add a mouse and the controll problems for mmos go away. Or you can pretend there's something sacred about console conrollers keep complaining about how your controller isn't up to the task of doing any of a hundred things, at a seconds notice, without a menu, while your caracter is in motion. "hang on a sec! I can only access 16 abillities at one time!" that's gonna go over realy well what with PvP being fast-moving, skill-based and integrated into every level of the game.
Interoperability
aren't PC and PS2 FF XI players opperating on the same servers now? is there any reson to immagine that 360 players won't be when the closed beta is over? why is this point even in this list?

Microsoft "firmly stands behind the HD-DVD format"

Personaly I think digital delivery is coming. No one thought it would work for music or with games, now iTunes is happily raking in cash and steam is, well it's still going. Live arcade, well I've got more marketplace games than disc games for my 360 so far.
Video delivery will work when you can watch it while you're downloading it. No one's going to wait a few hours for something to finish downloading before they can watch it (although they will wait 2-3 business days, go figure) Of course, it'll take the general public a while to get hip to the technology but they always get it sooner or later. After all how many people are recording their TV on hard disk recorders now anyway? Would it realy be that big a leap to store the movie they just bought there as well?

Oh yeah Ruben, I'm not mocking you because it's obvious what you meant, but it's hilarious the way this came out.
"if everyone went online some people would be left out"
funny stuff ^_^

Worms may be coming to Live Arcade

Jan 15th 2006 3:30AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I remember playing worms on the pc, using the horrid grey menu box to connect to my freinds for online gaming. Live would be great for this, friends list, no more postit notes with IP addresses stuck to the side of your monitor, not playing on laggy dialup anymore... ^_^
Come to think of it, I have the exact same memories of classic pc bomberman. That game could be great as well (if they stuck with the original formula and not one of the horrible later console versions.)
I'm giggly just thinking about it.
