Game of Thrones trailer warns of a coming chill

@CaptainProtonX

Yes, but it will only be of the direwolves.

NintendoWare Weekly: Mighty Switch Force, Tetris [update: Swapnote]

Dec 22nd 2011 2:08PM (Joystiq)
I still have, or have tracked down at some point, an original GB Tetris cartridge, so I'll skip that-- even if I didn't, though, I also have Tetris DS, which is the second-best Tetris version ever. You know in your heart that The Next Tetris Online is the best, and that the Dreamcast version of it is the best of that. Don't deny it.

As for Mighty Switch Force-- I love WayForward, but I also have the same problem @superfrick does: they're too bloody hard! I literally couldn't get past World 1 of Mighty Milky Way.

CyberConnect2 working on another .hack game

@Anticrawl

While I like .hack, I'm going to have to agree that I'd much rather they wrap up MML3 before working on anything else.

If I could get a promise out of Capcom that sales of Asura's Wrath would help drive interest in further partnership between the two companies, I might consider buying it-- assuming I trust Capcom enough not to break that promise.

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword save files repaired by Wii channel

I wouldn't bet on that, actually. Nintendo takes a dim view of patches to games post-release, because it's seen (and maybe rightfully so) as rushing the release to meet some arbitrary deadline as opposed to getting the quality right the first time. Now, granted, the Zelda games have a very poor track record in this regard, considering every single 3D Zelda has had some major bug in it, but the point still stands: Nintendo is very worried about its image and won't want to expose themselves to that sort of criticism, either in its platform or its own titles.

It's entirely possible, of course, that they may not have a choice-- third parties may be breathing down their necks for this sort of thing to be in the next system-- but, if I had to lay money down either way, I'd say that there won't be patches for the WiiU.

This really is Nintendo's standard MO when it comes to distributing patches over a large area. Anyone else remember the Pokemon Colosseum demo disc that had a patch for the Ruby/Sapphire clock bug? I'm honestly surprised that they didn't try this for Twilight Princess's save bug.

Microsoft aware of Xbox Live profile 'Error 801540B7,' working on fix

Dec 21st 2011 10:09AM (Joystiq)
@Lexxon

That may be your router; I had similar problems in the past after moving to FIOS. Are you using DHCP? If so, you may want to alter your setup to give your 360 a static IP address outside of the DHCP block. If you don't want to do that, then make sure that your router has set the DHCP lease duration to a sane value (24 hours to a week is normal). Also, double-check that there's not any weird NAT settings on the router. What the "test connection" thing does is basically run through a cold-boot sequence that the router recognizes as a new device coming on, and it runs through some settings that the dashboard takes for granted (because by default they should be 'remembered' by the router). It sounds like your router is forgetting these details after the 360's been off for a fair amount of time. Good luck.

Microsoft aware of Xbox Live profile 'Error 801540B7,' working on fix

Dec 21st 2011 10:04AM (Joystiq)
I had a hiccup last night; "Some Xbox Live content is not available at this time", was the error. I tried going into my friends list, and the Dashboard seemingly rebooted itself, and there were no further problems. That's literally the only problem I've had with Live since the 07-08 outage that wasn't caused by my router taking a dive. And I've even been in the betas for pretty much every dashboard update to date.

And incidentally: whenever a company says "they're investigating the issue", they really are, and it's a major problem. See, if they were going to ignore the problem, they wouldn't have even taken the time to send that message back. It's MS's ass if they send a message that says they're looking into it when they consciously know they aren't. So lay off the tech guys sending you a form letter saying that they're looking into it. The tech guys can spend their time writing everyone personalized apologies, or they can spend that time fixing it. Your choice.

New Pokemon game is a Nobunaga's Ambition crossover, really

Dec 17th 2011 1:28PM (Joystiq)
Morons: "Pokemon is the same thing over and over again, nobody wants to play that!"
Nintendo: "Okay, we'll cross it over with Nobunaga's Ambition and make it the strategy RPG you've been asking for."
Idiots: "WTF, Nintendo, you're running out of ideas, this is too different, do not want!"

If this gets an English release, it's going to be really, really good. Seeing everyone eat their words is just dessert.

Zynga prices IPO at $10, begins trading today

Wow. I mean, it's like they're *willfully* ignoring every internet company that had an IPO between 1996 and 2001.

GBA Ambassador games out in UK and Japan this Friday, full list revealed

Dec 14th 2011 9:49AM (Joystiq)
My secret shame is that, when I was a reviewer for Netjak (way back in the day), I never actually finished FE: Sacred Stones before publishing the review. It's one of only a very, very few games that I didn't finish before reviewing (FF Dawn of Souls was one of the others, but that was excusable due to the fact that I'd finished FF1 on the Origins disc beforehand and was just checking for differences). By the time I'd wanted to go back to it, it was prohibitively expensive (read: I was broke and there were other games that were cheaper), so it fell off the radar. Seeing it here is really nice.

Beyond that, though, I'd previously bought six of those games at full price (and still own two of those in cartridge form), so this is a steal by any definition.
