Sakurai describes 'grueling development' of Smash Bros. Melee
Dec 11th 2010 8:33PM (Joystiq)Never really got the difference in speed or umm, hard-coreness between the two. I like melee very much, lord knows I spent many nights playing it with my friends, but I've spent more playing Brawl and still discover new things about the game. Also, King Dedede and Wario are probably my favorites ever. Just too much fun to fart on someone's head in mid-air immediately sending them to their demise or laying into someone with a fully charged rocket-hammer.

Nov 10th 2010 8:10PM (Joystiq)Sonic Colors review: A bolt from the blue
Nov 10th 2010 8:00PM (Joystiq)All of these things I feel because for the first time in 10 years I am going to buy a Sonic game and probably enjoy the petunias out of it. Even the bad reviews for this game are scoring it in the 70 percentile, or dogging it for the story or the setting. "I have to believe Sonic's motivations! Where is the character development! Is the giant hamburger a metaphor for decadent spending in the face of the exploitation of the proletariat?" Or how about Sonic is giant hedgehog, a blue one nonetheless, who can run at mach 2 for some bizarre reason and loves chili dogs. You would know that if you watched the cartoon, whoops I mean "animated series". Not the cool one that got canceled but the less cool one that was also later canceled that took place on a planet called Mobius or some such nonsense. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yes, Sonic Colors looks like the best 3D Sonic game yet, although I think the Adventure titles were a little better than they get credit for, still flawed and unintentionally hilarious, but not horrible. I think Sonic's decline has been exaggerated in that regard a wee smidgen. With the exception of the first Sonic on 360/PS3, mind shatteringly bad game. Oh and Shadow the Hedgehog was insanely bad....and I personally hated the Rush titles......and those Sega Pico spin offs.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 review: Spin-dashed hopes
Oct 15th 2010 5:00PM (Joystiq)I gotta say that this isn't the way to develop Sonic 4. Just look at what Nintendo did with Mario or what Retro did with Metroid. Sonic needs a revolution of design. I think a Sonic game would work well in a fully 3D world with vast environments, no bottomless pits, plenty of room to run around and teeming with enemies. Sort of like Mario 64, based around challenges to acquire chaos emeralds and then you can actually become Super Sonic like in the old games and blast around the open worlds, with new really tough challenges built around Super Sonic. Or a completely open world design, seamless level design full of stuff to do. Maybe even let the player fly around as Super Sonic, why not you know Super Sonic's movement in Sonic 3 sometimes allowed you to fly until you hit something. Hell you could do alot of cool stuff in those games that has been removed, the bubble, the fireball, the magnet double-jump.
And the music, what happened to the music. Sega go find that original composer and hire him back the music in all the newer Sonic games is paltry, go get that guy who did all the great stuff. I mean just listen to Chemical Plant, Hydropolis, Death Egg, then listen to anything else from any Sonic game since the Dreamcast, well SA and SA2 had a few nice tunes.....but that's IT.
