IGN makes predictions for Xbox in 2006

Jan 19th 2006 3:36PM (Joystiq)
People here need to remember the difference of doing things as an add-on, or doing things as a complete package from the get go. This is where Sony has a definite advantage. Look at how them including a DVD drive in the PS2 surged DVD sales to all time highs and gave the world access to what was once inaccessible to most in a great package (remember at the time DVD players themselves were very pricey and it only cost $100 more to have the PS2 which had a good, easy-to-use DVD drive, plus the gaming capability). The same is happening here with Blue-Ray vs. HD-DVD. One is included for quite a nice price, while one is an add-on that will cost over $100 more easily. Here are the rest of the clinchers for Sony right now: backwards compatability, Blu-Ray being re-writable with plenty of extra space (you don't need an HD when you can just re-write everthing directly to the disc itself) and a Cell chip that will link to all of your other Cell chip imbued electronics and add extra power to which ever needs it the most.

The PSP TV adaptor released

This is a great move to happen for Sony. This will finally make the UMD market perk up a bit for them. Bringing the possiblity of viewing at home or on the go because of your $20 purchase will go down a bit sweeter with this. Too bad Sony doesn't just release a USB to RCA converter that does this easier.

Tales DS titled

Tales for the cube was phenomenal. Great graphics and perfect gameplay. Loved all the times that you could die, but the game would keep going, but there was also the ability to beat those type of characters and get extra special prizes. I still find the idea of a DS version sad with the DS's capabilities. Not a fanboy of any system Mark, so you can stop your apathy before you begin.

Definitely, but in the cases of Kirby and Nintendogs, the effect can be short lived. Nintendogs is basically a high-powered tamagotchi and Kirby is kind of short in comparison to a lot of the other DS titles. Point being is that it is sad that Nintendo didn't try to go for a much more next generation and powerful portable instead of the DS, because with the DS there will always have to be some sacrifice in order to create great looking games and great graphics. Would prefer it if most of the DS games were available for the GBA without the second screen capability. I did play Metroid Pinball the other day though and found that one to be a bit of greatness reminiscent of Pinball of the Dead (the ultimate console pinball game).

Ludwig, thanks for supporting what is being said there. Obviously the loss in gameplay is because they tried to up the graphics in order to make it pretty, thus the statement that they would have to make the game look like Pole Position in order to get good gameplay.

Let's predict what happens here. Good gameplay, subpar graphics. Will wait for the PSP Tales game and get superb gameplay and phenomenal graphics.

Prince of Persia hits DS

Geez, I wonder why you can't expect a beautiful port for the DS? What limits the DS from having this? Hmmm...

Is anybody actually surprised that this title wouldn't work on the DS? They would have to make the game look like Pole Position to make it work on such a weak graphic platform as the DS. But it would still be fun, right DS fanboys?

PSP vs. iPod in detail

Dec 12th 2005 3:03PM (Joystiq Playstation)
The whole point is to show how much better of a viewing experience you have with a PSP screen. Almost HD quality is a beautiful thing. I haven't seen an ipod video come even close yet.
