Nexus One gets yet another Android 2.2 Froyo update, FRF91

Jul 1st 2010 9:10PM (Engadget)
@badsubby that's interesting. I've been running Launcher pro for about two weeks but ignored the live wallpaper for fear of lag. But on a whim I decided to give it a shot and it ran great on my phone. I've had almost 0 lag on my nexus one with launcher pro. even with the experimental 3D app tray. I'm not sure why you're experiencing lag. Maybe it's the amount of services/apps you have running at one time?

Why the stock launcher doesn't run this good is beyond me. Google should take note. All is needed now are video editing a better default music player, better codec support and a better battery.

ha! and I just got the prompt for the latest 2.2 update ;-) funny

@badsubby generally speaking, live wallpapers are a bad idea. great way to waste resources. but if you NEED live wallpapers, I'd say install Launcher Pro beta on your N1. that app makes your phone run extremely fast and snappy especially now that you have 2.2 installed. load up the uber awesome Mario LiveWallpaper that was featured here and other places a few days ago. See how your phone fares. Mine has been pretty damn impressive with that setup over the last two days.

this is getting a bit ridiculous. I've updated my N1 four times with Android 2.2 in the last month and my Droid carrying gf hasn't gotten 2,2 once.

Motorola Droid X review

@SoulWeaponry LOL, I was thinking the same thing. After the Nexus One review, I don't take Engadget seriously when it comes to reviews anymore. Too many inconsistencies, too many suspect statements and comparisons, too many missing details. Shame. I'll swing over to Arstechnica for their review to see what the real skinny is.

Motorola Droid X review

@ryanbballer54 HTC is supposedly working on a EVO styled phone for TMob. I have a friend that works for Tmob and he let it slip last weekend that there's a major MTC Phone dropping later this year...this came while he was showing off his hacked HD2. Low and beyond, a few days later, there's "rumors" of a TMob HTC phone that's supposed to have the resolution from the gods, a 2GHz CPU and Android 3.0.

Even if all this is bunk, there's always the Galaxy S/Vibrant.

I understand these reviews are for stock devices but I guarantee if you put Launcher Pro Beta, Swype, Dolphin HD and DoubleTwist on the Droid X, it will hands down be one of the greatest phone experiences you've seen and it's still running Android 2.1. Put 2.2 on it and it's only gets better.

Android 2.1 on a Nexus One was great for when it launched, but running Android 2.2 with Launcher Pro on a Nexus One is so good that I can wait until the Nexus Two, the Gingerbread Phone, Fat Flipper or whatever the Android 3.0 phone is going to be called

Android 3.0 Gingerbread getting revamped UI, Froyo living on for lower-end phones?

@bfdhud I've been asking that question for months. Expecting a handset with an inferior spec to run the latest mobile OS built for a spec that's twice as powerful as a current handset is just ridiculous. Some people just don't seem to acknowledge that this has been the way of technology since forever. If not, then why not put Win7 on our old Pentium III machines or even an old Win 2000 rig.

PlayStation Plus coming via PS3 firmware 3.40 (update: now available)

Jun 29th 2010 1:04PM (Engadget)
sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I have a 500GB HDD in my main PS3 and at least 40GBs of that is music. Sony of all companies needs a better solution for finding music (and video for that matter) on PS3. Right now it's a total bitch.

Kindle for Android now available

@radio2 on that score, it's a disgrace. Running 1.5 at this point is tragic. 1.6 is just barely acceptable. So yeah, I agree with you. It sucks that you guys aren't getting any support. You said you were running the HTC Magic? I would chime in and suggest rooting but you know what, I did that with my G1 this time last year and it was great for the time thanks to Cyanogenmod, but I just got sick of the process. Constantly jumping through hoops and praying you don't brick your device.

maybe you can get a N1 or a Legend for a good price somewhere on the interwebs?

@radio2 I don't get it. The Nexus one is the only Android phone running 2.2 at the moment. A Nexus One running 2.2 with Launcher Pro Beta, Flash 10.1, DolphinHD, Vignette and Swype is one of the best Android phones you can buy, bar none. It's snappy, stable, tethers at the "all you can eat" unlimited data buffet (on Tmobile at least) and will get updates before any other Android phone until the frag issues are sorted out.

What's not to like about the Nexus One? Even a stock N1 is a great phone
