Joyswag: BioShock Xbox 360 faceplate & t-shirt

Aug 14th 2007 5:16PM (Joystiq)
I have to admit you can't go wrong with a custom BioShock Faceplate and T-Shirt. If I get picked I'll wear the shirt and I'm sure I'll be the Belle of the Ball =D

WoW Moviewatch: Going retro with WC2

Seeing this just reminds me of how cool it would be if Blizzard decided the next expansion including some Naval warfare. =D Fighting with ships was one of my favorite past times in WC2.

Breakfast Topic: How did you pick your class?

Apr 28th 2007 11:04AM (WoW)
I was "forced" (not really) into WoW by a couple friends, one of whom rolled a hunter and told me I should do the same. I leveled him to about 50 and realized I hated it. Keep in mind this is before hunter talents were changed so increasing your ranged attack was a 20-something talent totally not worth it. I rerolled a paladin after the hunter friend quit and fell in love with it. I might try a mage next time around just because I miss having any sort of ranged attack to pull mobs =(

Race-wise... Dwarves for life baby! Don't know how that's going to work out with no mage class but I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Kalgan on Retribution

While I agree that Holy Paladins needed something to take them down (and before I get flamed realize I play a Holy Paladin). I've always seen Paladins as the support class. They can melee in a pinch or heal. I've never thought about them being primary healers. However, I don't understand why if Spell Crit gear is the problem, why they aren't fixing the spell crit gear? To me, it seems like the drain is clogged so they decide to put in a new sink. The solution doesn't answer the intitial problem. I also have to say, I agree with the first post, I worked on MUDs before (if you don't know what a MUD is, think MMO except mostly text) and it's very difficult to create a perfect balance amongst classes IF you don't know where you want the class to go. Case in point, the Paladin class doesn't seem to have a defined role so every change that is made causes some ripples that affect it. With hybrid classes it's harder to plan out but I think Blizz needs to sit down and discuss a clear plan for each class and work from there. I think when they were working on talent trees that was a good step but it wasn't enough. Anyway, my 2 cents about it.

Limbaugh: Don't scapegoat games for VT massacre

Whether you agree with his politics or not, I think gamers can agree with the underlying point: It the person that makes the choice to do anything. I wish I could remember who said this quote but it applies, "Correlation does NOT mean causation." Yes, its true he played Counter-Strike but so do millions of people and most realize it's a game and do not go on murderous rampages. It's nice to see someone in the media finally state it like it is. It's the person not anything else: not video games, not rap music, not movies that killed those innocent lives. It was the guy that pulled the trigger not Counter-Strike.

The Spectrobes ain't got no love for Sega

From what I recall, "sega" in Italian is (to put it family friendly) oral in nature *wink wink nudge nudge* know what I mean? That's probably why it gets kicked out.

DS releases for the week of March 12th

Mar 12th 2007 5:21PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Maybe it's me forgetting but isn't Spectrobes also being release state-side? I could be wrong but I thought somewhere I read it was being release on Wed. 3-13

Ask WoW Insider: Best way to get instance invites?

Mar 9th 2007 8:55PM (WoW)
Probably, I should have clarified my question a little bit. I play a priest now that Burning Crusade is out and the paladin and hunter hardly get played because I didn't feel like I got anything out of them. But, I feel like I should be honest with people and I tell them up front that, I've probably not done this instance before and any tips about what to do is helping i.e. where I should be looking out for patrols, what kind of environmental traps I should notice. Usually, I'll get kicked and get a whisper from the leader saying something along the lines of "we need an experienced healer" Well, how do I get experience if I haven't had the opportunity. *shrug* Thanks for all the good tips though.

QQing for the advanced student

One of the things I find best about WoW (and in general MMOs) is if you just wait out some problems. Usually, game developers have a shall we say optimistic view of class balancing. Most often something is implemented with the hope of balance because in the developers mind, If Class A > Class B then drop A or make B better. However, not everyone plays Class A the same so while in general Class A > Class B it's not always true so a blanket fix of Class A or B generally screws someone over. However, the great thing about MMOs is the ability for them to change over time. Remember, when WoW was first out how things were? No one liked Shamans because they were "cheap". Hence, why MMOs have patches. You can't make a perfect MMO out of the box. People need to learn to just let a few things slide and realize the developers are people too and do make mistakes.

I always liked the fact about when you first play a Blood Elf, it says on the opening movie that "You are one of the last of the Blood Elves" or something to that effect and yet the Newbie Zone is overrun with hundreds of Blood Elves...Apparently, there was a big baby boom in Quel'thlas
