That statement was a publicity stunt to get everyone to shut up about Epic Porting Gears to the PlayStation 3.
I think you need to get a good look back on Cliffy B.'s past. He dislikes everything about the PS3 save for the Blu-ray player. He likes to get PS3 gamers riled up FOR FUN. Nobody does that EXCEPT! I'm telling you, the guys a tool.
That's a Bill Gates mugshot T-Shirt. He's so entirely Microsoft, its ridiculous. He's the only fanboy developer I know of.
I can respect your view but, I think you need a better look back on his views and opinions. His response to a touch-pad at launch for Sony's Vita seems to add up with his past statements all revolving around BIG moments for Sony. Microsoft doesn't even have to worry about it, because Cliffy B. evangelizes for them. Again, the Gears on PS3 is a publicity stunt to silence a raging beast.
Heh... What are you an Evangelical? Do I have to point out every source to you? If you'd like I will. Just say so.
I think you need to take a look at your own game collection and ask yourself if you're just as opinionated as I. Unreal Tournament and Mass Effect 2 is the only game I own that uses the Unreal Engine 3 and that wasn't even developed by Epic Games. BioWare acquired it and did just fine with the PS3.
On top of that, the PlayStation Vita was designed by Sony at the request of developers. Developers had a lot of say in what they wanted to make it easy to develop for and Epic Games still said: "No, we have no intention of porting Infinity Blade or any sort of development on the PS Vita." This was after the companies founder Tim Sweeney appeared at TGS to announce Vita would use the Unreal Engine 3, but Epic won't develop games.
There's a running pattern that seems to happen when Sony releases anything of significant worth or any piece of hardware. There's always someone there that's quick to talk smack in an attempt to bring Sony down. I'm speaking of course of Epic Games Lead Game Designer responsible for the Gears of War franchise. For example:
PS3 Release: "I HATE THAT %^*^ing controller!" (Speaking of the Dualshock)
PS Move: "PlayStation Move? I'm sick of having plastic cluttering my coffee table. I have the Kinect and its black and sleek and sexy by my television."
KILLZONE 3: "Yeah, we knew we weren't going to have Gears 3 ready, right? With the beta test that we're doing, right? So, we through Bulletstorm out there just to dick with Sony and Guerrilla Games." (He eventually bought it anyway so he could stay up with "Pop-culture."
3DTV: "I have to wear those glasses things."
Finally on his Twitter on the eve of the PS Vita's launch he takes a crack of one of the crowning features of the PS Vita taking another stab at Sony, its developers and its fans: "I've been reminded today of just how much I hate the touch-pad on laptops." ON THE EVE OF THE US RELEASE OF THE VITA!
What do you have to show for it. Cliffy B.? Sony and Naughty Dog are releasing 'The Last of Us' and you're going to try to interrupt that with your showing of the Unreal Engine 4 on Xbox, right? What is Epic Games doing right now? Fortnite? That's likely going to be on XBLA Exclusively right? Man, what a tool.
That's a load of bull. Do what the crowd wants? Are you kidding me? Why don't you jump into the primaries with the rest of the Rebublicans. That's a political statement.
When PS3 gamers asked for some lovin, you told them "No." Don't lie to me and tell me you're out to please the crowd as good business. Microsoft doesn't own you. You could make more going multiplatform. You did with the PC, did you not?
Not me. I want hard-copies of everything. It appears that won't be the case for Escape plan, dangit! But I searched for Escape Plan that I thought would be available at launch, and its nowhere to be found.
Well, at least we got to see what Jak & Daxter would have looked like on the PlayStation 3. Heroes on the Move was a pretty crappy game BUT! They character models and their environments were HD. Not HD Remake but literally done from the ground up.
Really, I like the way that Naughty Dog works. Focus on a franchise and then at the next console, move on. It keeps them focused and that's great. Now, the fact that they have two teams means we could be looking to have a game a year from them instead of one game every two years. Garsh dang Naughty Dog are amazing. I'm looking to play through the Uncharted Series again when Golden Abyss hits.
Sony's putting Crackle on the Xbox 360? I kind of thought Sony wanted to win the console wars. Microsoft are driving into the ground how "incompetant" they think Sony are, but can't seem to survive without them. Especially given the rumored specs for the next Xbox. Cell Processor, Blu-ray. Everyone nearly had a heart attack when Netflix on the 360 wouldn't feature Columbia Tristar films (around the time Ghostbusters: The Video Game came out). Eventually they got it.
For as much smack as Microsoft talks about Sony, Microsoft sure does need them.
Wow! This is awesome! Its weird to see Ashlie Johnson is all grown up now. Didn't like her then, thankfully she's only voicing this cause I still don't like her now. GREAT! trailer though. I'm sure the whole crew will do an excellent job. Then you know what happens?
Companies like Epic Games go after them and ask how Naughty Dog did it all and then in their Microsoft-like fashion try to duplicate that. Did you not see the sales numbers for Gears of War 3, how it didn't win any awards or even make the Game of the Year list and Epic Games were disappointed lashing out against the press for saying they didn't have a strong storyline? Its because they knew Naughty Dog beat them out. Sure they made a lot of money, but that's not really what they wanted. They wanted a reputation and the spotlight. They didn't get either.
I wonder why Joystiq didn't post anything about the PSN version. So, I guess that I'm going to have too.
Look, when you pay $60/yr for Xbox Live Arcade, you're paying to use Microsoft's services. So you're suddenly able to play demo's the day they're out, use ESPN (that jacked the price of XBLA up $10) and its the only way you can use Netflix.
Alright guys seriously. And they say that XBLA is better than PlayStation Network? Seriously? I have had a less stable gaming experience online with XBLA and a flawless gaming experience on PSN. (Not dropped games.) When you live without the the party system, you actually find out how blessed you truly are to realize what a cell phone was developed for and how I don't have to wait a half-hour to get into a game.
Now, Sony gives you demo's day 1 for free. You're not paying Sony to use Netflix, Hulu Plus or any other service really, other than Unlimited, but that's because its Sony's service. No additional fee's.
Now, if you have PlayStation Plus, not only are there thousands of other games you're getting for free (I'm seriously just about out of HDD space on my 500GB HDD in my PS3), this is a game that you LITTERALLY get for FREE on PSN. XBLA uh... I don't know anymore. Microsoft doesn't shell out stuff for free with their paid service. Sony actually does.
