T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide official: Android 2.1, QWERTY, coming in June (we go hands-on)

May 4th 2010 11:40AM (Engadget)
As a G1 user I can't not look forward to this, as long as it's got more app storage pace than the G1 (has to).

It's also got Android 2.1 which is nice but a stable build of 2.1 for the G1 is right around the corner thanks to Cyanogen so that's not as big of a deal as it was even a couple weeks ago.

I don't think I'd like the Sense UI and I'm pretty sure the T-Mobile stuff would suck so while I'll probably buy this I think I will wait till it's been rooted and there's a decent tweaked ROM available for it.

Wonder what it will really cost (not the fake contract pricing) I'm guessing it will set me back $349, if I'm lucky it will be $299 but I doubt it. I'm sure not getting it on contract the Even More Plus pricing makes that about as smart as playing the lottery

myTouch Slide found in the wild, looking good in red

Looks great, it's a minor bummer that it has only a 4 row keyboard but I'll take it and say thank you.

As long as it has more application memory than the G1 and has a 3.5mm jack I'll probably buy it.

Xbox 360 getting USB storage support in Spring 2010 firmware update

16Gb is a whole lot bigger than 512Mb but it isn't much when it comes to storing DLC and definitely not installed games.

Jabra STONE Bluetooth headset brings extreme noise blocking, $130 price tag

It's great that it uses Micro-USB but since you have to use the charging base to charge the thing it really isn't any better than a proprietary cable like Jawbone uses.

AT&T's 3G MicroCell still on track for release sometime before the end of the year

The monthly fee thing is ridiculous, you are paying for the device, you are paying for the power and Internet access, and AT&T wants to charge you for filling in the gaps of their network?

Aliph Jawbone Prime hands-on and unboxing

Still using a proprietary charge connector I see. I like my Mk1 Jawbone but won't buy another of their products until they come up with a unit that has Micro-USB or Mini-USB for charging (like every other wireless device my family owns).

Motorola Endeavor HX1 ears-on

I may pick one of these up to replace my Mk1 Jawbone, I like the sound quality of the Jawbone but the proprietary charge cable annoys the heck out of me.

This one looks like it uses Micro-USB which is good because that is where most manufacturers are going, right now every phone and every other BT headset in our family (I even keep a mid-range Motorola headset in my car so I have something I can use if/when the battery in the Jawbone dies and I am of course unable to charge it until I get home) uses mini-USB and it's just a simple (and inexpensive) adapter to go from mini-USB to micro-USB.

T-Mobile, Verizon set to offer Android-based Motorola phones this year

Jun 23rd 2009 3:23PM (Engadget)
Hmm my G1 is my first non-Motorola cell in quite some time, I've always been happy with Moto phones (I guess unlike many here) Plus you have to give Motorola credit for being one of the first to give up on proprietary chargers/connectors and going Mini-USB (even if we did need to load a stupid driver).

As for Verizon, I don't know how they will be able to control the environment and charge extra for everything on an Android device, I guess we shall see.

TiVo coming to Time Warner Cable, potentially lots of other providers

Jun 22nd 2009 2:01PM (Engadget)
TW is my local cable monopoly but I'd sooner give up TV completely than become a subscriber.

I guess I'll wait semi-patiently for DishTiVo's to come out so I can finally get HD.
