Ouch, low demand for the PS3

Dec 22nd 2006 4:28AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I do not want to bang on about this article news is news in my mind and this is console related and related to what was believed to be the 360's biggested competitor.

I would say in response to thehondaboy that the article is refering to the fact that ebay is not sustaining the high prices for the PS3 as it did for the 360 or in fact is still doing so for the Wii. This is the crux of the news item yes I agree you will always find the odd PS3 as you did with the 360 but that was not the real point that was being made.

Of course the other argument is the news that HDDVD is outselling BluRay by a very considerable margin I think put stock shortages high prices and the lack of interest in Blu Ray could mean another bad decision from Sony.

So "Rock on Tommy" this is going to be a good year for the 360 and it will only get better in the new year.

360 Mouse and KB control available today

But this is all moot surely? When the cross platform games come out you will not be able to control what control mechanisms the end user has. Currently a PC guy could use either a controller, Joystick or a mouse and keyboard combo a 360 geezer really has only the option of the controller. If they do not address this I see little reason why a console dude would want to become canon fodder for a similarly matched but better controlled PC dude.

I am pretty sure you can already plug a USB keyboard in for the purposes you suggest.

360 Mouse and KB control available today

Keyboard and Mouse is in my opinion a natural progression. Why a consolely version has not been made available in the past by the vendors is beyond me. If you can get a driving wheel to improve your driving games why not a keyboard and mouse to improve your gaming experience for FPS.

What I would like to see is a real keyboard and mouse like controller for the console. When I say keyboard and mouse I actually mean something that would allow accurate freeview and WASD type control with shortkeys. I am really thinking of a compromise controller maybe a trackball and keypad.

Meanwhile while we wait for a sensible method of controlling a FPS it will always play second fiddle to the PC fraternity for online gaming. This is a shame as the console has a lot of offer.

The Wii has introduced a revolutionary controller although I use the word "revolutionary" in inverted commas. When all we probably needed was a tried and tested keyboard and mouse option. What happens when MS introduce the FPS games that run across both PC and Console what do you do then? Die a lot would be my answer.

There are so many benefits to bring the online experience closer to the PC world. Stable servers might be one of them (I hate this business of playing transient servers) hamstringing your method of controlling the game is not one of them.

Weekend console sales winner, Xbox 360?

Nov 22nd 2006 9:12AM (Joystiq Xbox)
It is Christmas people... It is like me in a supermarket one box of detergent is as much like another. So based on that when a mum goes to the store and the only next gen available is the 360 ..Booomshackerlackerboom we have a sale.

Then I get home and cop it from the missus cos it was the wrong one, but we always keep it and it washes the clothes.

MISSING: Playstation 3 exclusives

Nov 20th 2006 8:43AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Well I suppose you have to expect the PS3 Fanboys to be monitoring the 360 site.

"...it would have had more content and a much sleeker finish due to the blu-ray capacity..."

The Blu Ray comment smacks of being "Harrisoned" after all the only thing Blu Ray will do for the PS3 is make it more expensive whilst delaying it worldwide launch whilst giving its competitors a greater foothold in the marketplace. Hardly something to boast about but hey feel free.

"...otherwise it would flop like the original Xbox..."

I never owned an Xbox but I would hardly call it a flop. From what I understand it did very well once the big (so called repitive) titles came out.

Whilst all those comments are amusing this one made me chuckle the most.

" ..Gears of war was just something to keep the 360 fans happy because Unreal Tournament was coming out on PS3.. ".

Believe me the fans are happy...

New 360 controller in the works?

If they do actually make an improved joystick for FPS gameing in particular how does that then fair with the argument that of an unfair advantage. Can they not just be done with it and allow/encourage USB Keyboard and Mouse support in more games.

Right back compat ya!

It is dissapointing that a premium title such at HL2 does not work well with the 360. I played Halo 2 from start to finish having never owned one before and I suspect I am not the only person playing Xbox originals for the first time. Although I did enjoy Halo2 I did get graphic issues at certain points during the game which were a tad annoying.

Amazon UK feels the burn

Dec 11th 2005 4:42AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Play.com have certainly done the same thing. Ironically the story for Play is that the Directors got to choose who got one... Duh! Unlike Amazon Play.com continued to take orders and still are and this considering they cannot fulfill current outstanding orders and screwed up in the same manor as Amazon. Also no £10 voucher from Play.com or anything else for that matter.

UK replenishment underway?

Dec 8th 2005 9:58AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Although I do believe new units are arriving it is just bloody annoying that so many pre orders are outstanding. This is just about all the info you will get out of play.com with regards to your order. XBox 360 Console (X360) Our price: £279.99 Delivered Availability: Temporarily out of stock. This item will be dispatched as soon as it arrives. I honestly stand a better chance with local retailers. ToysRUS had units in Portsmouth only yesterday so new stock is turning up. I just do not have the time to visit all the retailers hence why I preordered.
