New Small Arms DLC now available on Live Marketplace

Jun 7th 2007 9:54AM (Joystiq)
I'm actually impressed with the weapon balancing and clean-up issues that they finally released. As for the new characters, they have weapons that are similar to other characters, but have their differences. Example, the elephant has a Crossbow (like the knight) but the heavy attack launches a napalm attack instead of jsut an explosion. Similarly, the tiger has a sword like the ninja, but has the ability to lock it in place at the end of it's attack and have it hover there inflicting damage.
It looks like they patched in weapon charges lasting longer, so the game is less a "Shoot twice and look for a battery" and more like a shoot-em-up game. They also added other minor tweaks like you can't set off your own landmines and you have seeminghly larger health bars. All in all, it's a pretty good update. I'm not sure the DLC is fully worth it, but if you own it, patch it and see if it's moer the game you expected it to be.

The Grand Theft Auto IV trailer

Mar 30th 2007 4:33PM (Joystiq)
The visuals didn't excite me at all, even though they look sharp. It actually took this game a notch or two lower on the hype meter since it looks like they're going to stick to the basic gangster-in-the-big-city formula, at least from what I'm seeing right now.

I'll hold my final opinion until I see some actual gameplay mechanics, but right now, mark me up in the "disappointed" column.

And yes, you are allowed to form an opinion of the game from the trailer. Rockstar hopes that reaction = "Freakin yeah!!", my reaction ="meh.."

Xbox 360's Red Ring of Death visits Weekly Geek Show

Mar 26th 2007 2:29PM (Joystiq)
I purchased a launch 360 and it died in early February, just a month out of the extended warranty. It's a great system with some excellent featuers and games, but the customer service aspect of it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. ($139 repair fee.. It's practically a punishment for being an early adopter.) I've filed a BBB complaint and have pre-signed up on one of the class action lawsuits that are starting up. It seems that I have to go that route to have Microsoft pay for the shoddy manufacturing processes used on the launch versions.

Great games, great onlnie features, horrible customer service. Sounds just like Microsoft..

Denis Dyack shows he is only 'Too Human'

Mar 14th 2007 4:53PM (Joystiq)
Agreed. Dyack should learn that if you show a crappy game demo, expect someone to say "Now that was a rappy game demo." Besides, if the game comes out and rocks as hard as he thinks it's going to (in his mind) it'll sell just fine.

Cut the complaints and fix your obvious and admitted problems.

Congressman: Daily Show misrepresented me

Also I find it quite humorous that youth violence has actually declined during the time that "Violent Videogames" have been on the market.

Scapegoating the easy target, then disliking public reaction to your comments, seems par for the course in politics nowadays. Spin away!
