ASUS prices 10-inch Android Eee Pad under $399, 8-inch Eee Tablet at $300, other tablets too

@steel

MS has made Windows Compact Embedded for years, it runs on everything from PDAs to gas pumps. This is just the newest version with a different name.
It's a full blown os, but, it's typically used middleware that allows users to build their own UI on top of it.
This is how the Zune works.
If you remove the Metro UI from WP7, you're more or less left with WEC7.

Hacker reveals how Apple artificially restricts iPhone chargers (video)

It says "restricts" not "prevents".

But don't let reality inhibit your defense of all things Apple.

Buying an iPhone 4 from a Canadian carrier? It's locked

"Nevertheless, America is geographically a whole continent that is referred to as both "América" and "The Americas.""

The Americas are a single continent in one model.

Considering that that model often ignores Antarctica, because it has no permanent inhabitants, and most of the world, including the US, China and India separate the two, that is the model I, and most other people, choose to use.

@rumanchu

No, you're right.
When any normal person uses the word "American", they're referring to someone form the US.

However, technically, "American" describes anyone from the Americas.

That said, I've never met anyone who wasn't from the US, and wasn't trying to win an argument on the net, who calls to themselves an "American"

@jon

You are right about the "American" issue however, anyone from either continent is an American, no need for north of south.

@tikigawd

I hate to argue semantics on the net, but this is one fallacy I see too often.

There is no such continent as "America".
As you yourself pointed out, all of those places are in "North America" the rest of the hemisphere is in "South America".

Collectively known as "The Americas"

Using the word "America" to include Canada, or any of the places you mentioned is incorrect.
It needs a "North" at the begining or an "s" at the end.

iMac's latest 27-inch iteration requires special parts for your own SSD in second drive bay

@Jack

"Well, which is it? Pick one and get back to me."

Snapping together interchangeable parts: Easy.

Fabricating SSD brackets for the inside of a Mac: Kinda a pain in the ass.

Happy?

Kensington's Laptop Locking Station is a thief's worst nightmare... maybe

Jul 28th 2010 9:50AM (Engadget)
Guess what, none of you are important enough for someone to want to steal "your" notebook.

They just want "a" notebook, and even 4 screws is a hell of a lot more hassle than grabbing the untethered PC in the next cubicle or dorm room.

This thing works the same way as a bike chain, or car alarm.
It doesn't make theft impossible, it makes theft inconvenient.

AT&T claims it will be 'the premier carrier' for Windows Phone 7

Jul 28th 2010 9:03AM (Engadget)
@derX

His evidence might be anecdotal, but your argument is just as subjective.

"If you were to compare the coverage maps of AT&T to VZW, there is a clear winner."

If you were to compare data speeds between ATT and VZ, there is a clear winner. It ain't VZW.

"Furthermore, when people call AT&T the devil they aren't so much referring to its coverage as much as it refers to its price gouging. For example, they charge a shit load (or is it two, they keep raising prices) for for data when their coverage is questionable. This is a pain in the balls because smartphones require data packages."

VZW charges the same data rates as ATT for phones that can't use voice and data at the same time.

"Another example, the cripple their Android phones."

VZW has crippled most of their phones for years

"A devil would do something along those lines, I have been informed."

I'm not arguing positives for either company, but suggesting that ATT is objectively worse than VZW is disingenuous at best.
