EVE Evolved: The war on lag

Aug 22nd 2010 10:27PM (Massively)
You've obviously never worked on a big software project. Everything they said made sense to me - your critical code path changes based on both external factors and design changes.

Rolling back Dominion might have helped, but if your critical code paths aren't scaling right you'll eventually hit the same problems. What they're doing is going back and working on these critical paths to make them more optimized.

Lag has gotten much better since Dominion. Only thing that really bugs me is module cycling, minor grid loading issues (for the bigger fights), and brackets - most issues that have been around for some time.

But don't listen to the experienced people working on what is literally the most open MMO in terms of dev communication, hold your breath until your face turn blue - that seems to work well. Also, complain more about CCP not putting all their asset artists and UI/mission scripters on fixing lag - I hear that's popular on eve-o forums as well. (E.G. Drop all Developers on Incarna to FIX LAG derp derp)

For me, I got a system to defend as D2- has over 800 in local. BFF

Blizzard awarded $88M from WoW private server lawsuit

Oh please.

"ORDER RE DAMAGES by Judge Stephen V. Wilson,Based on Plaintiffs evidentiary submissions, the Court concludes that Plaintiff is entitled to default judgment in the amount of $3,052,339 in disgorged profits, $85,478,600 in statutory damages..."

That means this outfit made over 3 millions dollars in profit for /one person/. This person was making money on another's hard work.

This is nothing like the RIAA's tactics of sending a threatening letter that says "pay or we sue" while using shaky evidence. This isn't even gray area like the services provided by TPB.

This was brought to court, and then to default judgement. Maybe if she made a case for herself it wouldn't have been so much.

EVE Evolved: Heroes of EVE

posting in a WIdot thread...

Good people aren't hard to find in Eve. You just have to realize you can't trust any bozo with your life/isk.

You wouldn't walk down a dark alley with someone you just met or buy electronics out of an unmarked van in real life - why should it be any different in Eve?

New devblog reveals only 54 developers working on EVE Online

Nothing is wrong with these numbers - especially if they include artists and other asset generation teams. People need to calm down. CCP failing at fixing lag and thinks like rockets/FW it's more likely because of incompetence and beer, NOT pure numbers.

IMO Only thing game breaking right now is hot drop and fleet lag - which apparently no one is getting on Singularity to help test. Maybe what CCP needs is more players working on helping out testing instead of being allocated to QQ'ing on the forums and to the CSM.

Also, spoons? Eve's vocal community is ugh.

It's under NDA for a reason.

From my understanding the mobs seen in the video were designed for party play - judging by the plethora of other videos tackling the same mobs in a party.

The game is still being developed and tweaked. I'm not saying fall head over heels in hype, but take what you hear very carefully:

"Most players simply didn't expect the game as it was. So we suffered the WoW Scan; people came in compared it to the last MMO they played, deduced it was 'different' from that and left."

I liked TCoS as much as the next guy, but this quote just bugs me because it just finger pointing.

Developers and fans need to stop using "WoW players" as a get out of jail free card for poor polish, buggy games, and bad mechanics. TCoS did not have the gameplay nor polish expected of P2P games in this generation. It was a great game, mind you, but it should come as no surprise it didn't work with the P2P model.

Surprising no one, StarCraft II fans petition for LAN support

Jul 1st 2009 11:06PM (Joystiq)
Battle.net doesn't host the game, it just enables it. The game creator still hosts the game.

What does this mean?

It means the if you're on a LAN, playing while connected to Battle.net, you still still get LAN speeds. Only the authentication and stat tracking is done through the internet uplink.

For proof: See WC3.
