Will it affect MMOs ? Yeah probably. Because i see everything they do now as a test for their next MMO.
The thing is, they are facing the need to make up for hundred of thousand of players leaving the game, and it will only get worse. They're losing players to Rift, and then they will lose more to SWTOR, and then even more to GW2, and then... Obviously, they will also lose some to Diablo, and i don't think the money they will get from the box is worth more than 2 month of WoW. Even if they they sell a lot of their other games, i don't know it will make up for the subs thei're losing. I guess they have a shitload of cash but developping TITAN must be pretty expensive, and before it is released, i suppose RMT from Diablo is as good as it gets.
I loved Diablo, not i'm not sure i'll buy the 3rd. I hate the whole "stuff > all" model and the possibility to buy it makes it even worse.
I wish they'd give the numbers for NA and europe, because i'm pretty sure it's being going down for a while now, and the only reason the global subs number stays high is because they launch the game in new regions.
Anyway, it's good for the MMO industry that people go see somewhere else !
Here is a review of the CBT3 with lots of videos. http://steparu.com/reviews/mmo-rpg-reviews/672-archeage-online-review This game look like a vanguard 2 to me ! Housing, ships, amazing settings. But this time with a great graphic engine and PvP, siege weapons... I can't wait !
I have to say i don't think the game will live long on PS3. There's already very heavy weight shooters, and EVE players won't buy a PS3 just for DUST. I won't anyway. So i don't care anymore about whatever happens with DUST :'(
Everything in Vanguard desserves another shot ;-) But i don't think i would enjoy it if it was only a useless "minigame". We are probably going to see more minigames in the future. It was planned in Stargate and there are some in TOR. I don't think it's interesting unless it's really useful, and linked to other elements of the game. If it's only there to occupy you for 5 mins, then you might as well open your browser or play on your phone. But if it gives you acces to housing, or it unlocks some guild rights / quests, or it give you some power over NPC guard of a village... then it should be a really good addition to the game and the immersion into the world.
After 5 betas i think rift is going to be a good MMO and i already bought it.
However... Let's be honest, you're not going to be doing anything new in this game. Rifts/invasions are newish (Tabula Rasa...) but it's still just killing a bunch of mobs.
For someone who played WoW/WAR, playing Vanguard really brings new things to do : the crafting is incredible, a real crafting game inside the game. Same for the diplomacy : you didn't play a collectible card game in Wow/WAR. You can also build and furnish your own house...
Playing EVE online will also bring completely new mechanisms and gameplay. It's not even close to WoW/WAR. Rift is VERY close. It doesn't mean it's bad, there's a lot to like (in particular the soul system), but it's nothing new in terms of gameplay. Just a different skin.

Some people are looking for more than solo+dialogue oriented gameplay in an MMO. Believe it !
That kind of statement makes me think if you like this game, you have no brain. There... sounds good ?
