The biggest problem with the guardian cub is that it is not an item that everyone wants and has a use for. You have to compete to sell, which drives prices down, especially as people who want the pet get it, and demand drops even more.
The last line sums up perfectly what is wrong today. Society shields people from the consequences of their actions, and natural selection is weeded out, preserving the bloodlines of species weaknesses that nature would have culled, in the name of fairness. Small creatures stupid enough to taunt aggressive, dangerous creatures twice their size deserve to be removed from the gene pool, but society has an annoying penchant for trying to preserve their stupid, self-endangering bloodlines.
