Even Wii games not immune to dilution of industry profits

Apr 1st 2009 6:13AM (Joystiq)
If 3rd Parties just want to focus on WiiWare/VCA/VC content I'm good.

Majora's Mask, Phantasy Star on Japanese Virtual Console in April

Mar 28th 2009 12:11PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
It's actually the fourth version of Space Invaders on the VC. The PC Engine had a release of the HUCard version before the SNES and PCE CD releases of Space Invaders The Original Game...

I would have bought the VCA version, but I'm happy to have The Original Game for the PAL SNES on VC because it has the backdrop from "Deluxe" Space Invaders (as Midway called it) and the 2-player battle mode.

GDC09: Virtual Console Arcade launches with 4 games, available now

Mar 26th 2009 6:35AM (Joystiq)
Hopefully the support will be vast and deep for this. Come on Midway, give us your classic IP; at least die soon so someone else can leverage it.

I also have MAME and have a couple hundred ROMs; I will gladly pay money for them to play them on the Wii. Of course if they do support this new service as well as I think they should then I may end up buying less discs...the SD storage solution timing is perfect.

This is really what I was always hoping for from the VC.

Just so happy ^__^b

GDC09: Watch the Virtual Console Arcade announcement trailer

Mar 26th 2009 6:29AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'd be all over the Namco ones, but I never liked Tower of Druaga on the Namco Museum and the other two are emulated nicely on the Namco Museum Remix disc along with a dozen other arcade games from them (so hopefully they'll prioritise what's missing from that).

I did buy Star Force after reading the news on the Shop and never saw this back in the day; it's hard as nails, but a solid vertical shooter.

I actually thought these were just console ports initially, so this is like my dream come true of what the Virtual Console should be. The Xbox Live Arcade was the only thing about the Xbox I was at all envious of, so if Midway will kindly get off its backside and put its vast IP on this service I'll be in heaven.

Survey proposes Netflix service for Wii

I could see using this, we almost never rent films and the postal DVD services have little appeal due to cost and the way you need to manage lists.

Games can already access the SD card slot, and with improved read/write times downloading directly to that storage shouldn't be an issue and given there would likely be a fixed time limit during which you could view it's not like you need a large archive space.

Does the Xbox have an equivalent service in the UK presently?

Nintendo's next step may be into the playpen

I don't have a big problem with this per se; it's about as necessary and useful as those toy computers for little kids. I would never get such a thing for my child. More imagination and less plastic junk I say!

EA wants to push mature content boundaries with Dead Space: Extraction

Mar 21st 2009 5:14AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
So violence = Mature now? Hopefully they mean Mature as in "we wrote a good story that will appeal to intelligent people" and not "when you use your vibro knife in the right spot look at all the intestines spill out!"

I didn't have a problem with House of the Dead's violence, but the juvenile story and non-stop swearing, whilst it may earn a certificate 18 doesn't make it "mature."

If you look at what "adult situations" means in film, it's not exclusively sex either; it would be nice if video games could get past mature=lots of blood, as it's not really helping push any boundaries except those of bad taste.

Get ready for Space Camp! (From Activision)

Mar 19th 2009 7:00AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Ordinarily I don't give a toss about mini-game collections, but I do like Lunar Landar and the other space-themed games could end up being like arcade games of old (Asteroids, anyone?), so I'm prepared to read more on this before dismissing it.

More news on the content would be appreciated.

Adapter turns Classic Controller into GameCube controller

Mar 18th 2009 7:46AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Shame I didn't find out about this before I bought the PS-Gamecube adapter off Ebay. Now I'm thinking about the pro controller for the superior grips and shoulder button config; hopefully that will be cheaper than the SNES Classic!

House of the Dead: Overkill has most swearing ever

Mar 16th 2009 12:02PM (Joystiq)
The gameplay is good, but the "story" and "humour" proved to be too big a turn-off for me. I'll stick with Ghost Squad and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, thanks, but I'm glad others are enjoying the game and it's getting some recognition.
