1C Company exec defends Steam against brick-and-mortar retailers

Dec 1st 2010 10:21AM (Big Download)
" ... a small child who threw his toy away because he no longer wanted it, but started screaming as soon as another child picked it up to play with."

Perfect example. It kind of reminds me of the music industry. They resisted digital downloads and insisted that things need to be done their way and then complained when itunes came along and gave people what they had been asking for.

PC gamers have watched as the offerings in most stores have shrunk along with the shelf space available to them for years. Now there is finally services available that make a wide selection of games available, along with great sales and older games at discounted prices.

So how do retailers respond to this? Try to offer more games? try out 48 or 72 hour sales to bring in customers? Better use of shelf space? Maybe even consider starting their own download service? No(thank god)

Just whine about it instead. Because thats what really works. I use Steam, Impulse and Gog.com. Ill stick with those.

Double Fine on making PC games: our publishers "don't see enough financial reward"

I think John Callaham should post their e-mail addresses for us.

Happy thanksgiving.

Perhaps they handed development over to 3d realms. George Broussard should have it ready for us in about 8 years.

Blizzard: DOTA should not be trademarked by Valve

Nov 1st 2010 2:19AM (Big Download)
Sorry fresnoboone, but I think it's you who might need to check with some lawyers. We are talking about trademarks, not copyrights. They are not the same thing, look it up. All Blizzard is saying is that they feel that by attempting to trademark DOTA could be used as a way to prevent support/developement of the same game via BattleNet, and they do have a point.

Also keep in mind, as the game was created using Blizzard's War3 editor, and is bound by its Terms of Service, they could possibly claim ownership over the entire game/idea and actually block its release, which thankfully they are not doing. So this whole Blizzard-is-the-evil-empire thing is a little undeserved.

Honestly I think someone from Valve probably should call someone from Blizzard before filing and talk this over so they are both on the same page rather than have various sides communicating via articles in media outlets, which is really all this is.

The important thing is that this game should be pretty good. I'm curious to see if they can make it better than Demigod

Elemental to be updated and expanded no matter the reviews or sales

Aug 26th 2010 9:02AM (Big Download)
"It's something we're going to have to really think about in the future. With Demigod, one could have said it was a fluke. But with Elemental, it's a pattern. "

Funny I thought the same thing when I saw that happened again. It's a shame retailers are willing to screw over their customers by selling them a product they know is not ready just to sneak in an extra weekend of sales.

At least Stardock stands behind their product.

Anyone else notice that Dave Perry seems to be big on promises but not much on results? Hopefully he'll be at E3 with a functioning product this year. If he backs out at the last minute, it'll be a pretty clear indication that this service isnt working as well as he would like.

And on a side note I want Sacrifice 2.

Sniff....

Have some publishers missed out on not making a Twilight Saga movie game?

If anyone wants a good Vampire game I would highly recommend Vampire the Masqurade:Bloodlines. It's a shame Troika went under shortly after that, its a great game.
