Dec 29th 2011 6:41PM (Joystiq)Trunas: I fall into the normal male demographic that enjoys playing games as much as a tv show or movie and believes they're an equal and often more enjoyable entertainment medium and yet still has time to maintain a full time job and take a shower regularly... Unlike 90-% of my midnight brethren. (my last experience was so bad I now wait for release day delivery instead)
Roflrex: True, the older generation do like physical media but that will only last as long as them or until they are forced to switch to the alternative/mainstream method which will be dictated by the publishers and developers. Distribution and physical media production costs would decrease extensively meaning more profit. Company's don't care if u can't wrap it. They'll sell a physical download voucher with a code in the interim.
The digital download model doesn't seem to hurt apple, people have adapted to their app stores pretty efficiently because they have to. There's no alternative. People will still buy and download the latest games even if they don't get a box with it. The latest call of duty title is an obvious indicator of where we're heading. no expensive prestige special edition they make hardly any money on, just a regular or hardened edition with a load of download cards inside for redeemable digital content, one of which being a digital subscription! Lobe it or hate it, it's where we're heading. If they can cut out the middle man, they will!
Churrotastic: Believe it or not the game industry is doing everything it can to stop consumers buying used games. (That brilliant online pass code u have to enter on the card that isn't inside your used copy of your 2nd hand game will tell u that).
Publishers and developers don't see a penny/cent for any used games sold, only the retailers.. and they don't make games. So none of that is going back into the industry, less money, less jobs, less games for you to buy! Want call of duty 23 and gears of war 9? Keep buying used!
