I looked out into the darkness... and a light began to shine... small at first... but it grew... and grew... as did my fear and trepidation... the light wavered in intensity and a great sound came from its source... "Be not afraid, blind one..." and in all but an instant... I wasn't afraid. A sense of calm came over me, a sense of comfort and reassurance... what once was cold and dark was now warm and bright...

I took one step closer to this amorphous being that glowed before me and I could've sworn I saw it smile. Can something without a face smile...?

I took another step... and another... and another... till I was surrounded by this light... up, down and all around... it enveloped me... sheltered me...

I looked down at my hands and feet and they too were glowing... shining... as I moved them in front of my face... past my eyes... they left image trails of their previous positions. I became enthralled with this entertaining distraction to the point where I almost didn't notice the shadow moving off to my right.

Or may haps it was my left... every direction I snapped my line of vision to showed this mysterious dark shape exiting my view. I couldn't keep up with it... couldn't pin it down. The fear I had earlier returned... the comfort and safety I had felt growing up until this point was slowly dissipating. As was the light.

I turned to run but what lay before me looked exactly like what was now behind me. I had no sense of direction... no frame of reference...

The dark shape was now in front of me... more defined... it was menacing... gesturing like a beast who's territory had been violated...

I could bear it no longer... I forced my legs to move towards this creature... whatever it was... and whatever it meant to do to me... I was going to find out sooner rather than later... as I stumbled ahead it became clearer and clearer...

I could feel my mouth curl up in horror as I got closer and closer to this... thing... My feet were moving as if by their own accord... unresponsive to my suggestion... NO... begging for them to stop... onward I went.

I could now feel this thing's breath on me... could feel its eyes upon me... I was stationary now, trembling before it... eyes shut... face turned away.. hands held up in defense... was I going to die?

"Open your eyes!" it said... not in the familiar and welcoming tone but in something more dastardly... and inhuman. As if under its power, I put down my hands... slowly... opened my eyes at an even slower pace... and that is when I saw...
