Must be a sucker, but each one of the above did things different and sometimes for the better or worse. But still a fun ride :)

Open world PVP will never work in the majority of games why ?

Players will cheat and exploit there way, all the way to the bank, now this may be in-game or via third party software. stuff like AOCBUDDY. Now its not everyone but those few bad eggs ruin it for everyone else.

The kids also take it super personal and hide behind the internet with the alter egos, flaming griefing etc. Then after 20mins it turns into who has the biggest numbers. So no open world PVP sucks balls, simply down to human nature. Flagged PVP is the only way, Anarchy online had it pretty much nailed down. Expect certain PVE items required u to do enter PVP which again sucks balls and just had fun for the gankers.

This game is the only thing to look forward to over the next 18 months. Hopefully it will be to complicated for all the wowlings and wannabe jedis for them to even try it.

Funcom have made some stunning games. Anarchy online is stunning for actual gameplay, Conan has the best PVE content going, (mostly done by the awesome folk who have now moved to secret world :D )

Always the same PVP people moaning and clambering for dominicance over each other with there my class needs XYZ as ABC has HKL etc etc. Totally destroys the game and then there massive negativity comes out via forums etc.

The only problem with AOC is they try and do something different every single patch and refuse to admit its shite or doesnt work. READ BORI.

But yes PVP is a OFFSHOOT of PVE deal with it in AOC at least.

I wouldnt call it exciting, while AOC may be a nice game it is by no means a great game, it may look very nice, it may play very nice however there is a distinct lack of depth to it. Feat trees are bland and to be effective everyone uses the same build +-10%, everyone looks the same aside from raiding there is nothing to do and once you have full T1,T2 on 3 or alts it gets pretty boring. There is ZERO character customization once at 80, nothing to do solo at 80 (the crafting is a joke tbh)

That being said its a nice game now and leveling is really really fun but once you hit 80 and raided a few times its dull as dishwater.

What the hell is it with player housing, i just don't get it completely useless and it wouldn't work in AOC. there is zero benefit just because wow or EQ or some other game has doesn't mean everyone has to have to.

Damm wowlings stick to wow or open your mind to stuff that isnt wow did it this way its much much better it isn't.

Well if you left after a month from release, you may as well try the game alot of the stability issues have gone infact it generally runs well (though you do need a good PC to run it) DX10 although still offically in test runs ok, i play in dx10 all the time now, raiding, PVP the works. The sound is simply stunning even the music is beautiful. Leveling content is fantastic, most if not all quests work as intended.

The community is dependent upon which server you go on really, Crom (PVE with controlled PVP) is a nice play to be, not much smack talk and generaly a nice place to be, FURY (PVP) is a nightmare end of story.

Now for the bad points, since 1.5 patch sieges are broken, getting 94 players onto the battlefield is no mean task, then getting that 94 players organsised into a defending/ attacking force is no mean task, 5 mins into the siege bang, DC all round and the siege lock timer resets END OF SIEGE, defending team wins by default. You may think that is the game breaker, but i will save the best to last.

Once level 80 is reached the end game content has alot to be desired, quite simply there is not enough, but then i am told after 1 year even WOW struggles for places to raid. The new commons district is a welcome area however its short and i found the place lacking in depth.

The new itemisation of the entire database as you can imagine was no small task and while everything has been made a little more item dependent, its too early to tell yet whether its for the good or bad, but first impresions are it seems to have simplifed a certain aspects that was lacking first time around.

Now the game breaker if you are a huge PVP nut then the class balance is out of control, just roll a caster type and as it stands at the moment you would have to blind, have 1 arm in a cast to lose. It really is that bad. Funcom say the class balancing is a on going issue, and for me this is where the root of the problem lies, prior to this patch people gave there own time and money to play on the test servers. Plenty of feedback was given and 95% of it was ignored by the Developers and we have the mess what is now AOC 1.5 at end game.

Would i recomend some to play AOC, yes let them check it out with 2 weeks free time you could get a character to level 75 even 80 with a few solid days at it.

But be warned its not balanced and Funcom seem to operate on seperate dimension to the entire playerbase. Does it have a future ? Well for me the damage has been done like so many players i feel let down by FUNCOM over this patch. So as soon as something else comes along i am off. What scary is i like the idea of the secret world another up and comer from FUNCOM lets hope the dev team in charge of that one can provide something AOC has not got

DEPTH

I quit AOC just before christmas 2008, and have just returned this week.

First off specs for this game, i run vista63, 4meg ram and a 8800 GT, and a duel core 3ghz intel thingy.

I have no performance issues at all, memory leak has gone and i can play all day and maybe have to relog once due to me flicking between other applications and it borks it up.

As for content all of the leveling holes have been fixed, raid instances work like there intended, there a still a few bugs around but nothing major at all and most importantly there is always something to do at level 80.

My advice is wait till 1.5 patch hits re-install and maybe start a fresh on Tortage. Been on the test server and DX10 is something quite staggering fora mmporg and yes my 8800GT runs it just fine, of course i have to turn down some distances but overall it is turning in to a great little MMPORG
